That sort of big swipe to just your second ball, when you've just lost a wicket... not having that.

    Here's James Bracey on debut.

That is disappointing for Lawrence. I still haven't seen much of him...

A loose shot to a wide ball outside off stump - that was not good cricket from Dan Lawrence.

What on EARTH was that shot?!

Sorry, but this is an absolute nonsense shot from Dan Lawrence. It's just his second ball, hung wide outside off stump, he goes after it with hard hands and flat feet, and a thick edge flies to Colin de Grandhomme at third slip at about chin height. Think Zak Crawley but worse.

That was Tim Southee's 100th wicket in his past 20 Tests - he's averaging 22.5 in that time.

England are in a spot of bother here.

  7. Eng 140-4published at 54 overs

Sorry, Tim. Never rely on England to get you out of a social engagement.

Rory Burns, meanwhile, is having to play the Devon Conway role. He leaves his way through a Kyle Jamieson maiden.

I'm with Steph here - that lbw shout looked out. No wonder Southee couldn't believe it hadn't been given. Williamson took about half of a second to send it upstairs, too.

How was that not given out in the first place? It was hitting the middle of middle.

Dan Lawrence is the next batter in line.

A good delivery. It came down the slope and Pope lost his balance slightly. You wonder whether getting across the stumps to avoid nicking the ball creates this problem.

Pope has got to go - and it is exactly the way we thought it might happen.

As out as out can be.

It's hitting the middle stump, Pope playing all around his front pad, and Southee makes another breakthrough for New Zealand. Hmm.

The further you go outside your off stump, the more the bat comes down on an angle to get access to the ball.

  16. Postpublished at 11:44 British Summer Time 5 June 2021

Pope hasn't got himself outside the line and this is gonna be very, very out...

I'm not surprised New Zealand have gone for that. Pope is looking a little concerned...

Southee has just done an unreal celebrappeal for an lbw shout against Pope.

Williamson sends it upstairs. This looks close...
