What's the form on coming to the cricket in fancy dress but not having a ticket for the Hollies Stand? Just below the media centre, near the steps to the England dressing room, are five crayons. No-one else in their section is in fancy dress. Is it like forgetting school has a non-uniform day and turning up in your blazer?

New Zealand have a handy lead of 85 runs.

But England have dragged themselves back into this since lunch - had the Kiwis got to tea still batting, you'd feel the hosts had no chance.

    Stuart Broad superb yet again.

I do apologise Mr Stuart Broad.

He was dead right to talk Joe Root into that review. No bat on it - front pad then back pad.

Three reds on ball tracking and Ajaz Patel falls for a valuable 20.

I mean when Stuart Broad wants a review, I do tend to think it's not out.

But there doesn't appear to be any bat here....

James Bracey was indicating that he thought there was a little bit of bat on it.

Stuart Broad gets it through onto Ajaz Patel's pads.

    Big appeal.

Broad of course loves it. Umpire says no.

Joe Root unsure...but he ends up reviewing it. Hmm.

    That was a proper shot!

  11. NZ 388-9published at 119 overs

Ajaz Patel tickles a single before Trent Boult skips down and marmalises it back past Joe Root for four more.

Jason Roy would be proud of that.

    Captain. Catcher. Batter. Bowler.

Joe Root is going to have a twirl.

Cue Ajaz Patel hitting 50 off 40 balls now.

England have dragged themselves back into this Test match after lunch because it was slipping away from them.

I think one ball in the last two overs would have hit the top of off-stump. Just hit the top of off-stump!

Short from Broad, Boult backs aways and baseball bashes it down the ground for four.

No coach would teach you that shot, but hey, it worked.

A bumper sees Boult swerve underneath last up. These two have scored 22 off 14 balls now.

It's actually in the laws. Or the rules. Or spirit of the game. Or whatever.

safcpete: Why when we get a tailender in do we stop bowling properly and take the slips out? Just bowl normal quick, top of off, as you would against the top batsmen.

England won't want another couple of overs like they've just had where the ball is flying to all parts.

Trent Boult plays a delicious on-drive but mid-on makes a superb stop.

That's four though - Boult slicing it past leg stump in ugly fashion for four.
