But the Superchargers are not out of it yet, and the good news for them is that Laura Wolvaardt is finding some form at an ideal time.
Her 75 not out got them to 126, which at one point looked almost impossible when they were 16-4.
Jemimah Rodrigues is the leading run-scorer in the women's competition and the Originals knew they had to get her out early to give themselves the best chance of victory - which they did.
Kate Cross was named Match Hero for her 3 wickets, and she got her team off to the perfect start with the wicket of England teammate Lauren Winfield-Hill.
Manchester Originals captain and Match Hero Kate Cross: "Great day. We love coming over and doing well here against our rivals. It has been a tough tournament but to get a big win in a tough match is great.
"I just felt good. I have for a while now. Most of the summer. Cricket is a confidence game and when you are flying you feel good. It was a good pitch with pace in it. The face of thunder was because I split my finger.
"It has been small margins where we have lost games. I thought we bowled well. Laura [Wolvaardt] hit the bad balls. It is always good to get on a good pitch and the way Lizelle batted was great to watch."
For the Superchargers, they've made things difficult for themselves. They were in second place before this game and a win would've all but confirmed their place in the eliminators.
There are four teams with a game in hand who can now catch them. Nervy times!
Kate Cross, the Originals captain, is delighted. She jumps from her seat and applauds her teammates off the pitch.
It's been a tough tournament for her team, who were eliminated from the competition before this game, but what a performance to finish on a high.
Lizelle Lee was the star with her 68 from 40 balls, well supported by Mignon du Preez with 24 not out.
Well, that was made to look very easy in the end. Cordelia Griffith hits the winning run for the Originals and they chase the score down with 15 balls remaining.
1 more run needed
Shot! Griffith thumps Linsey Smith to the boundary for four more. One to go ...

You would think that six has more or less seen them home now. They don't need to take any risks.
8 more runs needed
Cordelia Griffiths sweeps for four to bring the runs required to less than 10.
13 more runs needed
And Mignon du Preez picks up from where Lizelle Lee left off! Straight over the top for six more - that was lovely.
Manchester's worm has been heading north at a rapid pace, but now it's heading ever-so-slightly east...
21 more runs needed
That was a big, big wicket for the 18-year-old spinner Kalea Moore, who has bowled really well - so far, 10 balls have gone for just seven runs.

Soon as that left the bat I thought it was six. It looked like it just wanted to come out of Laura Wolvaardt's hands. But a great catch. Cordelia Griffith has not had a great time of it. The Superchargers will now want to let her know.
Lee c Wolvaardt b Moore 68 (Originals 102-2)
A magnificent innings comes to an end. Again she hits it very, very hard but straight to her South Africa teammate Laura Wolvaardt.
Is there a chance for the Superchargers?
Mignon du Preez smashes a couple of lovely drives straight to fielders. She won't panic though, she's just got to play a supporting role today.

I think maybe if Davidson-Richards had committed. It is always one of those that if you commit to it, it can go for a boundary. But as a bowler, I love it if you go for that as there is a chance of a game-changing catch.
