New Zealand have 17 centrally contracted players and eight development contracts. But England now have 41 players being paid to play domestically. They and Australia have been the two leading countries in terms of domestic contracts.

  3. NZ 122-8published at 17 overs

Woah! New batter Jess Kerr launches Nat Sciver down the ground for six. It came off the bottom of the bat but just about cleared the boundary.

Amy Jones has had a brilliant night, we often take her for granted but she's an incredible wicketkeeper, she makes it look easy. I think being captain of Birmingham Phoenix has given her confidence, after they lost their first four games but still made it to the Eliminator.

    Rowe c Jones b Sciver (NZ 116-8)

Captain Nat Sciver takes her first wicket of the match!

It's a good line outside the off stump, Hannah Rowe looks to give it huge heave and the faintest of edges directs the ball into the safe hands of wicketkeeper Amy Jones.

The word that comes to me with Tash Farrant is "resilience", after she lost her England contract she was still willing to go away and learn. There wasn't the security of regional contracts then, so she went away and got a full-time job and was able to come back.

  7. NZ 108-7published at 16 overs

That beats everyone! Tash Farrant strays down the leg side and the ball races away for four byes.

Seven from the over as New Zealand looks to bat out their allocation.

New Zealand, as disappointing as the night has been, have scored 100 in 15 overs without their two main batters, Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates.

  9. NZ 100-7published at 15 overs

New Zealand reach their 100 as new batter Hannah gets off the mark with a single. Cue some polite applause from the crowd.

The big difference this season has been, when England got aggressive their heads were still. Hayley Jensen there, had just hit two fours, but she'd lost her shape - why was she trying to hit that one to the moon?

It's a case of "hit out or get out" for New Zealand.

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 14.3 overs

    Jensen b Glenn 16 (NZ 98-7)

    Two fours and out!

It's one swing too many as Sarah Glenn goes fuller, Jensen takes a few strides down the wicket, misses the ball, and is bowled.

How do you approach it from New Zealand's situation needing 16 an over?

I would rather my team be bowled out going for boundaries, rather than prodding around for 20 overs. You're not going to gain anything from that.

  14. NZ 98-6published at 14.2 overs

Crunch! Jensen plays a crisp drive off Sarah Glenn for four.

Make that back-to-back boundaries as Jensen swings the bat, not quite middling it, but still finding four more.

The team will be really pleased with this performance, Historically we've never really started series well - we've talked a lot about throwing the first punch in a series.

  16. NZ 90-6published at 14 overs

Sophie Ecclestone doing what Sophie Ecclestone does - a tidy line and length which restricts the batters from scoring boundaries.

With the result a foregone conclusion, the attention of the crowd has turned to a Mexican wave which is sweeping across the stands.

Brunt changed up her pace, and it was a brilliant catch from Mady Villiers in the deep. That mountain for New Zealand is getting taller and taller.

Thamsyn Newton is the new batter for New Zealand. Will they see out the remaining seven overs? It's never a good look being all out in a T20 game.

  20. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 12.3 overs

    Satterthwaite c Villiers b Brunt 43 (NZ 82-6)

Amy Satterthwaite goes, and so does the smidgen of hope New Zealand may have had.

It's a brilliant slower ball from Katherine Brunt, out of the back of the hand, and the batter sends the ball towards Maddy Villiers on the mid-wicket boundary - the fielder taking a smart catch.
