Twenty20 International player of the summer Nat Sciver: "It feels like a long time ago we were playing India, and after my performances in the last three games I'm not sure I should be holding this trophy, but it has been a brilliant summer of T20 cricket. We're not building up to a World Cup in T20 cricket, but it is important we groove the way we want to play it.

"The bowling went pretty well in the India series, so I was happy with that. I really like T20 cricket - it doesn't always go right for you, and you have to accept that as a bowler, and as a batter.

"I'm being used in the powerplay a bit more now with the ball. I like to have that string to my bow, and make sure I can bowl at any stage."

Sophia Dunkley has impressed me again - the summer she has had has been phenomenal.

I'm really pleased for Tash Farrant too. She was disappointed to miss out during the India series, and then how she turned up at The Hundred, and was the leading wicket-taker, and then has taken that form into this series. She will be over the moon with that.

The future of English cricket looks really bright. You've got players sat on the bench who could quite easily be a part of this team. It is very good hands over the future, and the competition for places is higher than it has ever been.

Sophia Dunkley took it all in her stride though as she continued her wonderful summer by hitting the winning runs with one ball to spare.

Maia Bouchier then fell in the first ball of the final over - nerves were really starting to jangle then.

It all got a bit tense when Knight fell for 42.

England needed eight from seven balls at the stage.

  8. Postpublished at 21:49 British Summer Time 9 September 2021

Heather Knight, who was named player of the match: "It's nice to be back, a lovely night on my home ground.

"New Zealand were outstanding and really tested us, but we dealt with the pressure well and coped with that chase.

"It's a really good sign for this team, being able to take that pressure and successful which is a really good sign, so we will take confidence from it."

On Sophia Dunkley: " What a summer she is having. It's really important to see her cope with that pressure and see us over the line. She has really worked on her composure and she is maturing as a cricketer."

Player of the series New Zealand captain Sophie Devine: "It was a great game of cricket - credit to England, they held their nerve there. Everybody was in with a shout in the final over which is what you want to from a T20 game. It is disappointing not to win, but we'll take a lot of learnings out of tonight.

"Hopefully that game is a sign of things to come in the one-day series, credit to England, but to my girls I'm extremely proud of them and the work we've done in the last couple of months is really starting to come to fruition.

"The greatest thing about Suzie Bates scoring runs is that it keeps her out of the dugout because she is an absolute pest! It is great to see her back and hitting the ball as cleanly as I've ever seen.

"We were really impressed with Brooke Halliday last summer - her character and strength to just go out and play her own game. That is what we want to encourage any new player in our environment to do, to just go out and express themselves."

It has been a fantastic series. The game tonight swung so many times, and it is two great sides, and it sets it up nicely for the ODI series.

You can't write Sophia Dunkley off. What a summer she has. Of course she was going to be there at the end to see England home. She has been worked on that maturity, and wanting to be a finisher.

England have been looking for one, and they have found one in her.

I have got some exciting news... we think it is a super over if the game is tied.

At least according to one set of regulations, which we think are the correct ones.
