James Vince and Eoin Morgan are England's batters in case you've lost track of where we're at.

Morgan said he wanted England to get used to batting first and that challenge. Well, this is certainly going to be a challenge...

    Moeen c Allen b Holder 0 (Eng 10-3)

    Bring back the Ashes!

Moeen Ali is looking to drive first up, but the ball doesn't quite move back in as he expects, and he ends up picking out Fabian Allen at point.

What a start for West Indies.

John Poole: Same England, different time zone.

  4. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 1.5 overs

    Banton c Pooran b Holder 4 (Eng 10-2)

    Four and out!

It is excellent bowling from Jason Holder, to be fair. It is that Test match length, and it draws Tom Banton forward, and a thick outside edge is eventually held by a juggling Nicholas Pooran at second slip.

England have hit two boundaries, and both have immediately been followed by a wicket.

  5. Eng 10-1published at 1.4 oers

    That's nice.

England are looking to use their feet as much as possible by the look of things. Tom Banton takes two steps down and drives through mid-on for his first boundary.

It'll be Jason Holder with the second over.

  8. wicket

    Roy b Cottrell 6 (Eng 6-1)

Immediate revenge! The salute celebration is out.

Jason Roy again looks to advance down the wicket, but there is a little bit of movement back in and his middle stump is absolutely flattened.

A big wicket for the Windies.

    Shot!

After four dot balls, Jason Roy advances down the pitch and whacks Sheldon Cottrell over mid-wicket for the first six of the day.

It's a measure of England's strength they can pick arguably seven of their first-choice players despite having a depleted squad. The four that have come in - Banton, Vince, Dawson and Mahmood - would still have a chance of being a first-choice squad. It's a strong England.

Left-arm quick Sheldon Cottrell will start with the ball for the hosts.

He's come into the side after their disappointing World Cup campaign, that saw them pick up just one win in their defence of the title.

Will we see his famous salute celebration?

We've had three national anthems and both players taking the knee, it is now time for some cricket.

Jason Roy - who smashed 115 off 47 balls in England's warm-up game, external - is out in the middle with Tom Banton.

Banton didn't feature for England throughout 2021 so this is an opportunity he needs to grasp.

The 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia starts in exactly nine months time.

Before the 2021 tournament we saw Tymal Mills force his away into the squad, while Jofra Archer make a late surge to be included in the 2019 50-over World Cup.

I want to know who you think will work their way into England's squad/team over the next nine months.

Send us your name and a reason why using #bbccricket or text 81111 (UK only - standard message rates apply). It just has to be someone who didn't feature in the 2021 tournament! They don't need to be uncapped.

West Indies captain Kieron Pollard: "It is a fresh pitch so we want to see what we can get out of it early on and the ball tends to come on easier later on with a little bit of dew.

"We want to stay in the present. We've got a couple of new guys who are trying to make a name for themselves and establish themselves on the international stage - it is exciting times for us."

England captain Eoin Morgan: "We wanted to bat first. The trend of the World Cup was to chase. We're not bad at chasing and setting a score is an area of improvement for us.

"The new World Cup cycle is very exciting. We'll see the majority of the squad get opportunities through the series."

Some more on that England team...

    • Sam Billings has completed his Hobart-Sydney-Los Angeles-Miami-Barbados trip to play and be England's wicketkeeper tonight. It is the first time he's kept wicket in a T20 international since November 2019
    • All-rounder Liam Dawson is playing an international for the first time since October 2018
    • The team includes just five players - Moeen Ali, Eoin Morgan, Sam Billings, Chris Jordan and Adil Rashid - who played in England's semi-final defeat against New Zealand in the 2021 T20 World Cup in November. England's Ashes contingent were not considered for this series, with it having only finished on Sunday morning.
