Keep the faith, Rob. 100 up for England - that didn't look likely a couple of hours ago. Pope hooks to long leg for a couple.

Rob Carrick: The good thing about living in the USA is that the Ashes is on at a good time for me to watch, the bad news is that the Ashes is on at a good time for me to watch.
Australia have got fielders all over Brisbane, even with England five down. Buttler not taking them on. Yet.

Nathan Lyon is back. How will Buttler play the offie?
Andy Zaltzman
BBC Test Match Special statistician
This is England's worst score batting first in an Ashes Test since Lord's in 1997 when they were 56-5 on route to 77 all out.
It is their worst in Australia since 1980 in a non-Ashes series. They were 41-5 at Sydney.
If Buttler had got out like that I'd have happily shaken hands and told them to keep their stupid urn.

Jos Buttler doesn't look quite as comfortable against the left-arm of Mitchell Starc. He was looking very comfortable against Josh Hazlewood.

There was a definite white blob on the hip. Jos Buttler survives and rightly so.
Eng 96-5
Not out. Not out. NOT OUT!
Everyone calm down.
Eng 96-5
Hip, surely?

You don't want to be trusting wicketkeepers too much.

Alex Carey was celebrating - he threw the ball in the air. He just thought it was out.
It wasn't a particularly good ball from Mitchell Starc.
Eng 96-5
Not like this?
Down the leg side. Australia think Buttler has got something on it...

On a normal Gabba outfield you would feel England's total would be worth a bit more. Not much more, but maybe about 115.
Mitchell Starc comes back, immediately inducing a loose waft from Jos Buttler. A white-ball battle in a Test match.

The Queen has arrived - it's good to see her. She is moving rather well I must say.
The Queen is in the stands, while the England fans that have made it to the Gabba are singing something quite rude about Matilda. England have dropped a slip and posted a long-off, which says plenty about the way Buttler is batting.
