This is the Jos Buttler that England want to see it. If he carries on like this it makes his selection worthwhile.

You can't bowl there to Jos Buttler! He was savage with that cut shot. It was beautifully put away.
This is how England's fifth wicket fell. Since then it's been the Jos Buttler Show, which continues with a slash through point for four.

That was perhaps a case of Josh Hazlewood having to change his line a bit - it was a little too straight. It is a different game when the batter is coming at you.
Ian Chappell

That hasn't been done to Josh Hazlewood before - Jos Buttler is taking him on.
If you can make these sort of innings it can change the game.
Two more, this time turned through mid-wicket. Buttler is playing a different game to the rest. 22 off 22.

Jos Buttler has been really aggressive so far. He is trying to play in that Adam Gilchrist manner and take the game away from Australia. If he can do that then he is worth his place in this England side as the keeper, despite being far from their best keeper.
If he doesn't make a lot of runs as a batter I really don't see why you're picking Buttler.
This feels very much like the way we've always wanted Jos Buttler to play in Test cricket. Another plonk over extra cover brings three more.

This is the ninth time that Ollie Pope has got past 20 this year, but he's only once got past 35.
Starts haven't been a problem, it is whether he can convert it to something bigger.

Former Australia captain on Test Match Special
I like Ollie Pope's approach - he is a very aggressive player.
I just wish he would settle down a little bit when he doesn't score for three or four balls. He looks to get a bit anxious about scoring. He has to realise there will be tough periods and you've just got to look to get a single and get down the other end.
Apropos of nothing, why have Australia got the same sponsor's logo in two places on the front of their shirts?

What you've got to do with the extra bounce is either get well forward or well back.
Buttler was well back on that occasion and it gave him the extra time.
The another win for Buttler, a punch through point for three.

That went straight through Jos Buttler. It was a beautiful length. It might have moved slightly and Buttler just prodded at it and there wasn't much foot movement. It was a beautiful delivery.
Australia have learnt quickly, dragging the length back to Buttler. One from Cummins nips away, turning Buttler into a 'S' shape. Great battle, this.

The bat slightly turned in Buttler's hands as he played that so he got a lot of elevation and then it just stayed exactly where it landed.
And again! This time over mid-on. It plugs just before the rope, but Buttler picks up three more. He has 14 in even time.
Phil Tufnell
Former England spinner on BBC Test Match Special
That was a good shot. It was on the rise but he just bopped it over mid-off.

That is a counter-attacking shot! It was full but Jos Buttler went after that.
