Sounds like good wholesome fun, Steven. Albeit a little Alan Partridge-esque.

When do you stop wishing people a 'Happy New New Year' by the way? I reckon by week two it starts to sound a little strange.

I went up the Hawkesbury River in a houseboat for New Years. I got picked up on New Years Eve morning and drove up for an hour and then you drive the houseboat yourself.

Thanks Amy. A frustrating morning all round eh? I haven't given up hope of seeing some more cricket today, though.

M: No respect to Broad and Anderson but it looked tired four years ago. We have brought nothing through since. Wood maybe. Archer slightly. Apart from that it’s the same attack from four years ago. Why isn’t Mahmood here to send it down 90-plus?

The Australia players have all just disappeared from their balcony.

It does rain an awful lot in Sydney. England women had their T20 World Cup semi-final obliterated by the rain at the SCG when I was out there in 2020.

I understand that Joe Root got messed around a bit with the weather so James Anderson and Stuart Broad got a bit of a breather so you can get trapped into bowling your opening bowlers for longer than you usually would, but I would really have liked to see Mark Wood get in there early.

Ben Stokes is engrossed in something on the analyst's computer up in the dressing room.

I think it's still raining. I don't know any more. This morning session feels like it's lasted for most of my life. I don't remember a time when it wasn't raining.

Ian Chappell has just rocked up on comms and the first thing he's said is "I was wondering if Joe Root actually likes taking wickets."

Truly, he is the grumpy granddad I always wanted.
