Summary

  • Anderson and Wood strike late on first day

  • Broad has Warner (30) caught at slip

  • Australia won toss; lead 3-0 in series with two to play

  • Daily highlights on BBC iPlayer from 17:00 GMT

  1. Aus 18-0published at 8 overs

Marcus Harris has a huge heave and a miss at a dreadfully wide delivery from Stuart Broad. No-one comes out of that looking good.

A better, more controlled push off the pads brings Harris a couple of runs, before Broad ends the over with an excellent delivery that nips past Harris' outside edge.

James Payne: Any chance of the bowlers targeting the stumps and making the batsman play/driving to get the nick behind? So many deliveries are way too wide and can be easily left. Yet again.

  3. Aus 16-0published at 7 overs

    Warner 10, Harris 2

That'll be another four to the total as James Anderson slides a delivery into David Warner's thigh and can only watch it fly away for four leg byes.

Anderson, perhaps already fuming from the aggressively short haircut someone has given him, looks thoroughly grumpy.

That is a good shot from David Warner. He didn't even move his feet, he just played it on the length.

  5. Aus 12-0published at 6.1 overs

Now that's a shot, David Warner standing tall and driving James Anderson for four. Lovely.

England are doing a decent job at building pressure with dot balls.

  7. Aus 8-0published at 6 overs

Haseeb Hameed has been stuck in at short leg for Stuart Broad as he bowls to Marcus Harris.

Harris tries to leave a delivery that ends up thudding into the bottom of the bat and dribbling towards point.

If you're going to give me a reference Henry, at least make it one I understand.

Don't look at me like you don't know Dire Straits, Alex...

  10. Aus 8-0published at 5 overs

That's a better delivery from James Anderson to end the over, making David Warner play, and the Aussie opener gets a nasty whack on the thigh for his troubles.

  11. Aus 8-0published at 2.4 overs

Outside off stump, and left well alone by David Warner.

James Anderson has three deliveries left from his over that was rudely interrupted by the rain.

We're almost seeing more swing from James Anderson this morning than we've seen from any bowler in the series.

It is conventional swing too and he's playing with David Warner and he'll be enjoying that.

When you lose a couple of times everybody will sit in silence and you think about where things went wrong and the captain and coach have a chat and you think 'let's be positive - we can turn this around'. Believing in yourself is the most important thing or there is no point going out there and trying to fight.

When you lose another game, every team will then have what we like to call a crisis meeting. The players will get together without the staff and you'll have a little whiteboard and you'll write some notes and you just get your feelings out there, openly and honestly.

There is no judgement in that meeting.

I can imagine Mark Wood is someone you want to avoid at times like this. He'll be up and about and really energetic and you want to conserve your energy at times like this.
