England can be pretty happy with the play we have had. It's been a frustrating day, they've beaten the bat a few times and created some half chances.
Stuart Broad walked off with his eyes to the sky and his hands held out in front of him, letting the rain wash over. It was like he was in a shampoo advert.

There's a lot of blue sky around but this nasty blob of rain has plonked itself over SCG. England's players are walking off but they have a few smiles.
That might be it for the day.
Steve Smith is running off. He appears to have appointed himself as umpire.

It's raining quite heavily now. A few people have put their brollies up but it's sunny so it is a quick shower which hopefully won't last long.

Richard Kennedy: Will you put the baby down before you tackle the Xmas tree?
The most sensible part of the anatomy to sign, wouldn't you agree?

I have just seen something remarkable at the far end of the ground. Down at fine leg, Jack Leach just went over to the crowd and signed...a bald man's head!
It's raining. Very lightly.

Steve Smith's form since that stellar series in 2019 on his return from his ban has been patchy. He made 774 runs in seven innings at an average of 110 in 2019. Since then 696 runs in 13 Tests at an average of 38.
No help. I love Christmas. I'd keep the tree up all year if I wasn't worried about the neighbours thinking I'm strange.
Smith pulls at Stokes. It looks ugly, but ultimately a safe boundary to long leg.

Rachel T: Take your Christmas tree down TODAY - tonight is 12th night, tomorrow is Epiphany
Katharine Rosenstiel: It's 12th night tonight so Christmas tree down tomorrow.
Crisp from Usman Khawaja, who gets off the mark with an hook for four. This is Khawaja's first Test since Headingley 2019. He hasn't played any cricket since the end of November. Interesting to see how he goes, in the context of England's disrupted preperation.

Mark Wood has been one of those bowlers that everyone loves to watch. However, he's always had niggles or an injury here or there. But he seems to have got himself fit and he's been a real threat for England. He beats the bat consistently, bowls good pace and threatens top-order batters.
January 5th. Am I supposed to take my Christmas tree down today or tomorrow?
Mark Wood is still bowling with gas.

Joe Root has rotated the seamers very well today. He has given them enough spells and enough of a rest too.
Shadows lengthening, Ben Stokes into the account with the sort of haircut that would have him at home with Kurupt FM. Smith, twitching, defends from positions that would be used in a yoga class.
Baby update. She's moving. Danger.
