In the mid 90s, Granada TV went open plan and all the office partition walls were taken down. We played cricket one lunchtime on the fourth floor before the new desks went in, just so we could say we had.

I've played in the sea off the coast of Spain with one of those balls you can get to bounce on water. Did slightly less than the ball in Hobart this morning.

Crunch. Head climbs into a drive off Broad, rocketing the ball through point for four more. My son has just wandered in, telling me "I want nanny to come over". Nanny might be a decent option with the ball right now.

Head has now become the leading scorer in the series. Marnus Labuschagne has scored 330 from 8 innings. Head has gone passed that now in just five innings.

Now Green driving through the covers for four. England are in danger of not only losing the wheels, but the axels, engine, windscreen and air freshener.

Terrific shot. Broad has threw his head back there. It was short and full of width. This is an excellent innings from Head.

Indeed it is Broad, only for Head to find the middle with a crunching cut shot. He's on course a ton at only just behind a run-a-ball.

England keep going back to Stuart Broad. He is on the key - he's kept creating chances. They just need someone at the other end, it can't just be from one end.

  12. Aus 169-4published at 08:24 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2022

If you consider that Robinson is injured, Woakes and Wood have been off the boil, Stokes has a side strain and there's no spinner, England's attack is down to Stuart Broad.

Wood has bowled a couple of decent deliveries and found the edge. But because England have gone so defensive with this field, one went for four and another for three.

Thick edge from Head off Wood, through a vacant slip-region and away for four. Wood is going at more than seven an over.

I once played cricket at V Festival. Started with just three of us. Ended up with over 100 fielders. Reminds me of last week, when England survived. Finished with stumps being call by security at 2am.

It feels like 250 is such a good score on this pitch. It moved around so much this morning and the drop of Marnus Labuschagne and then his partnership of 71 with Travis Head feels important.

It feels like an early season game at home but Australia have played it really well and never missed an opportunity to score.

England are just struggling to threaten the outside edge like they managed to earlier in the day. It feels like everything, especially to Cameron Green, is just running back in, which suggests the pitch has just lost that tackiness.

The players are taking drinks. I've been handed my baby daughter, who is now sitting in my lap listening to TMS. She too can't understand how Australia are scoring so quickly on this surface.
