Tahlia McGrath, speaking to ABC: "I'm just loving playing cricket at the moment. It's always nice when you're winning and in good form. I'll roll with it as long as possible.

"We thought it was probably about par. They had a really good start and we pegged it back quite well. We gave ourselves every chance."

England, on paper, are a well-rounded side but tonight they looked a bowler short because they didn't bowl well enough.

After five overs Australia were 32-1 and the required run-rate had been pushed up to 9.20 an over.

Tahlia McGrath and Meg Lanning then smashed 138 from the next 12 overs to cruise to an extremely comfortable win.

England will be disappointed. There were sloppy moments in the field and there was ill discipline with the ball, with seven wides in the later overs.

  7. 'I was just watching the show'published at 11:29 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2022

Australia captain Meg Lanning: "We thought it was a par score but it can be pretty difficult to defend so we weren't too disappointed coming in. We knew we had to play really straight on that wicket but Tahlia McGrath was outstanding. I was just stood at the other end watching the show and it was pretty intimidating.

"She was really key for us. We were probably looking at another 20 or 30 runs at one stage but she was able to break that partnership and provide the few overs for us at the end to keep them quiet and that was really important in the end.

"Alana King bowled really well. She was under pressure with two set betters but was able to break the partnership early on, and that is her role in the side, with her flair. She did that today."

  8. 'We thought we'd got par'published at 11:26 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2022

England captain Heather Knight: "The way that Danni Wyatt and Tammy Beaumont came out and batted was outstanding, especially seeming they said they felt a bit rusty. We thought we got to about par with the bat.

"The pitch got slightly better in the chase, but we'll take the positives. They batted outstandingly and Tahlia McGrath made it difficult to set fields and moved around in the crease a lot so we'll have to learn from that ahead of Saturday."

England had enough runs on the board, they just didn't bowl well enough.

The worrying thing for England is that they would have thought 169 was a very, very good score. They fell away slightly towards the end of their innings but now, looking back, they were probably at least 30 runs short.

Tahlia McGrath - who was playing just her fourth international T20 - finishes unbeaten on 91 of 49 balls. She hit 13 fours and one six. She also took 3-26 with the ball too.

Meg Lanning, who promoted herself to open after Beth Mooney was ruled out with a fractured jaw, finishes on 64 off 44 balls.

McGrath and Lanning shared an unbroken 144 for the second wicket, off just 79 balls.

Australia were unbelievable. I felt sorry for the England bowlers at one stage, especially Sarah Glenn.

Meg Lanning drives through point for four. A wonderful shot.

    Australia need four to win.
