  1. GOODBYEpublished at 10:33 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2022

That's pretty much your lot from today after another disappointing tale of batting woe on the other side of globe.

There's two more ODIs left in the Women's Ashes series which take place on Saturday and next Monday and we will, of course, bring you live radio commentary of those (UK listeners only).

You can read a report of today's match, written by my esteemed colleague Matthew Henry, here...

    Bye for now.

More from Knight on TMS: "Amy Jones' dismissal was frustrating. The marginal calls have not gone towards us and there has been a bit of inconsistency in terms of how much the umpires have looked at those tight decisions.

"We've got to focus on the World Cup as well as trying to draw this series now."

Australia batter Beth Mooney on Test Match Special: "We've got to stay a bit tunnel vision at the moment and try to win the Ashes outright, win both these games and go into the World Cup with a bit of momentum."

England are not far behind. In 2019 they were beaten easily and only won the final T20. They seemed overawed playing Australia. They've not been here.

England captain Heather Knight on Test Match Special: "The way we bowled was outstanding, we were unlucky not to take more wickets.

"We weren't with the bat, they bowled pretty well but we just needed that one big partnership. In the three games we've played we have not had a complete performance with bat and ball.

"We're really not far way from Australia. We talked about the preparation leading into this series but we've gone toe to toe with them and certainly performed better than in 2019. We just haven't quite strung it together.

"We've got two more games to try and win in order to draw this series and prepare for the World Cup."

England would still draw the series if they win the next two ODIs, but as Australia hold the Ashes even if it finishes all square they keep the trophy.

    More from Heather Knight incoming.

  7. Postpublished at 10:18 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2022

England captain Heather Knight on BT Sport: "The bowlers did an outstanding job. We came at them, bowled good areas and adapted well to the conditions.

"We're still in with a chance of drawing the series and that's got to be our focus now.

"We didn't get a partnership together. The lower order fought really well. We lost wickets at regular moments and they bowled well, they kept the stumps in the game and that made it hard to score on that wicket."

England captain Heather Knight is about to speak to the broadcasters so we'll have her words shortly.

Darcie Brown might feel slightly aggrieved not to be the player of the match after key wickets finishing with 4-34, but Beth Mooney's knock of 73 was the difference between the sides.

  9. Postpublished at 10:14 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2022

Player of the match Beth Mooney on BT Sport: "Unbelievable. We came into this series with one job to do - retain the Ashes and we've done that. We've got another job to do now and win them outright.

"I had a bit of tightness in my quad but it's more precautionary than anything that I didn't field.

"The bowlers absolutely nailed it. They bowled a perfect length. We used the conditions well too - it was skidding on more under lights."

A bit of a counterattack at the end, but Australia have been the better team on the day.

For the tourists the same story of the winter for the women as it was for the men: England's batting struggles.

A run out chance off the spin of Alana King but Jess Jonassen's throw misses and Katherine Brunt survives. A direct hit it would have been curtains.

England are having that kind of last-wicket partnership, where the ball seems to be going in the air, but missing the fielders, batter's taking risks and getting away with them. The odd brilliant, and unexpected, shot as well.

That's a brave shot by Kate Cross, but she plays it well.

    Hello!

Katherine Brunt nudges a single to put the free-wheeling Kate Cross on strike.

Cross plays a brilliant lap shot to lift the ball over the wicketkeeper's head for four. Lovely stuff.

This partnership is worth 20 off 24 balls.
