  1. WI 19-0published at 4.2 overs

Katherine Brunt drops a filthy short ball that Dottin pulls to the mid-wicket boundary. Oh, and it's a no-ball as Brunt's knee clips the bails at the non-striker's end.

Free hit to follow and Brunt, who should've had Dottin out first ball, is ticking.

England's lengths have been slightly better than against Australia, they've been that bit fuller. That is probably where Dottin was able to access the ball for the six but you want to be looking to take advantage of the new ball.

  3. WI 14-0published at 4 overs

Anya Shrubsole recovers from that Dottin six as her next over goes for just a single.

There is some swing out there but otherwise it looks a decent batting day.

  4. WI 13-0published at 3 overs

A tidy over from Katherine Brunt concedes just two.

This opening pair is terrifying. And I can say that as someone who's played against them - although I did get them both out in the same game. It was five years ago but I'm still going to shamelessly cling on to it as my one cricket success. (I'm so sorry.)

I think for a lot of these England girls who have played against Dottin for a while now, that shot will send shivers down their spine! That was an unbelievable shot, such quick hands through the ball.

  6. WI 11-0published at 2 overs

    Dottin 9, Matthews 2

Deandra Dottin has looked streaky so far, chipping a couple in the air and edging one down to third man.

And as I finish that sentence, she effortlessly clips the last ball of Anya Shrubsole's over off her legs for six over mid-wicket.

    Standard.

Was it Winfield-Hill's catch? Dunkley was running backward, Winfield-Hill had more ground to cover but she was running forward.

Winfield-Hill is under pressure for her spot and needs to score runs, a dropped catch is the last thing she needs.

  8. WI 3-0published at 1 over

Hayley Matthews gets herself off the mark in much less dramatic fashion with a quick single into the covers.

Katherine Brunt looks raging. Avoid eye contact at all costs, everyone.

  9. dropped catch

Dottin dropped on 0published at 0.1 overs

    What a start!

Deandra Dottin plays across one, the top edge balloons straight up in the air, and Lauren Winfield-Hill drops a very catchable chance at mid-off.

A life for Dottin, a valuable miss for England. From the first ball. Wow.

Hayley Matthews and Deandra Dottin make their way to the middle, as Katherine Brunt takes the new ball.

What an entertaining trio to start proceedings!

It always makes me laugh because the bowling unit has been unbelievable for England over the winter. They have one off day and us in the media start asking questions. I think it is the right call to go in with five bowlers and Heather Knight as the sixth option.

Chilly and grey is pretty accurate for Wales at the moment, too.

Over in Dunedin, though, the anthems are done (Rally Round the West Indies is such a banger, FYI) and it's time to get started.

Chilly and grey in Dunedin. The University Oval is the world's southernmost international cricket ground - not all that far away from the Antarctic. It feels it too. Layer up.

West Indies are such an entertaining team to watch and they opened the tournament in style with a last-over thriller against hosts New Zealand.

Hayley Matthews starred with the bat, and Deandra Dottin closed it out with the ball. Their form against England in this format isn't great, but certainly do not write them off.

There were plenty of positives for England to take from their first game - mainly Nat Sciver's genius, as they fell just 12 runs short of Australia's imposing first-innings 310.

Here's a quick reminder of how that game unfolded.

England captain Heather Knight: "I was going to have a bowl so I'm pretty happy with that. It's been easier to chase but it's a used wicket so we'll have to see what it's like, what we want to keep the West Indies to and what we're happy to chase."

West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor: "The pitch looks good and runs on the board are runs on the board. It's a matter of learning from those mistakes [the opening game], we know we didn't do as well in the field as we would have liked but today is an important game and we have to tighten up. We just have to go out there and play each game like a final."

  20. West Indies win the toss and bat firstpublished at 21:33 Greenwich Mean Time 8 March 2022

West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor wins the toss and England are going to be chasing once again. Heather Knight says she wanted to bowl first anyway, so everyone's a winner.
