  14. The eight-day Midlands derby weekpublished at 21:20 British Summer Time 16 July 2021

Birmingham Bears beat Worcestershire Rapids by 17 runs

    BBC Sport at Edgbaston

Well that's derby week in the Midlands done and dusted for another season unless, by some miracle, these two sides somehow both go on to compete back here in Birmingham on Finals Day on 18 September.

And what a week it has been. An eight-day week, on which these two sides have met each other on six of those eight days.

Victory for Worcestershire at New Road last Friday night - and a pretty big one too, by 49 runs, as the yellow-shirted Bears were well beaten by the men in powder blue and black.

Then four more days on the same flat track watching men in white accumulate a mountain of runs that ended in a draw - and the Bears into the County Championship elite when the season resumes after The Hundred break.

And now victory for the Bears in the Birmingham rematch - and a comfortable 17-run winning margin.

It's a result that blows the group right open ahead of Sunday's finale. But that's going to be a culture shock for Bears and Pears alike, having to learn to take on other teams again after their private backyard tussles.

    Lancashire 199-5 v 183-4 Durham (18.4 overs)

    Now hang on.

A four from Sean Dickson brings up his 50. But it also means Durham now need 17 from 8. It's doable.

  20. Bears beat Rapids by 17 runspublished at 21:13 British Summer Time 16 July 2021
    Breaking

Birmingham Bears 169-5 beat Worcestershire 152-6 by 17 runs

Salvation for the Bears then - they had to win this to stay in contention for a quarter-final spot from the North Group. And win it they did.

The 106-run stand betweeb birthday boy Sam Hain (83no) and Carlos Brathwaite (53no) proves decisive in the end as the Bears recover from 7-2 and 63-5.

They will still need to beat bottom side Northants Steelbacks on Sunday to have a chance of qualifying though.

Worcestershire could have sealed a last-eight berth with victory but were never quite up with the rate despite a decent 36 from Jake Libby. They lacked the big innings Hain provided for the hosts.
