I think England needed a franchise white-ball tounrmanet for a number of years. It gives the selectors a good chance to look at a number of different players - the best of the best. The county system breeds good players, but it hadn't been marketed as well as the Hundred has. Some performances got swept under the radar.

Welsh Fire have plenty of firepower in the back end of their innings. They just need to rebuild and give those batters a platform.

Luke Wood is 5ft 9in but was bowling gas. Matt Carter, at 6ft 6in, is wheeling away a little more serenely at the other end. Good control from Carter against Ben Duckett who is only able to sweep him once with three runs taken from that set.

Cockbain missed the ball completely. It was like a practice swing in golf!

    Cockbain b Wood 16 (Fire 28-2)

Luke Wood has fire in his belly and the pace to back it up. His aggressive bowling brings him up the wicket of Ian Cockbain, who attempts to whack it down the ground and instead sees the furniture rearranged.

That was a bit unnecessary for the wicket. It wasn't as short as Tom Banton thought it was and it bounced a bit as well. It was nicely taken by Rashid Khan. A huge blow for Welsh Fire.

  11. Fire 18-1published at 16 balls

Luke Wood, legs pumping as he attacks the crease, delivers a quick vicious short ball. But it bounces over Ben Duckett's head races away for four byes. The Rockets bowler is bowling, erm, rockets.

Tom Banton creams Wahab Riaz over the top for four but a ball later the Pakistan fast bowler has his man. Banton attempts to whip Wahab over mid-wicket but he skies it and Rashid Khan gobbles up the catch at cover. The Afghanistan man has a huge grin on his face.
