They are motoring along and taking a few more risks because they know that they can with nine wickets remaining.

Ben Stokes, collar up and arm tatts showing, goes back to David Willey in search of this breakthrough.

But he has no answer for Ben Duckett who is playing more than just a supporting role to Jonny Bairstow.

First he pierces the field on the leg side for four and then hammers it down the ground for another boundary.

The Northern Superchargers will realise here that they need wickets or they could be chasing something that is totally out of their reach.

The crowd were booing Bairstow at the start, I think ironically, but there was warm applause when he reached his fifty. He's one of their own really.

Good bowling from Matthew Potts, conceding just three from his set of five.

It's time for a strategic timeout as the Superchargers coaching staff join the players on the field to talk tactics.

Well played Jonny Bairstow. He has been willing to defend the odd ball in this period of play knowing that if he gets anything lose he will be able to put it away.

  12. Fire 75-1published at Ball 50

Jonny Bairstow, stop it! He steadies himself and middles the life out of the ball, sending it straight into the stands to bring up his 50.

    He's reached 53 off 29 balls.

Back-to-back boundaries for Duckett. The first is scooped over Simpson, the second is clobbered through the off side.

He looked so convinced, John Simpson. Sometimes a club cricket umpire might stick his finger up after being convinced, but we have the technology here.

Mystery spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman with his box of tricks is back into the attack.

The 20-year-old magician almost outfoxes Ben Duckett as John Simpson whips off the bails and appeals for a stumping. The umpire refers it upstairs but Duckett is safe.

A bit of Superchargers news away from the action...

Faf du Plessis, who was due to be their captain in The Hundred, has been ruled out of tonight's game - and their next two - because he is still suffering symptoms of concussion.

The ex-South Africa captain collided with a team-mate when fielding in the PSL six weeks ago and has not played since.

He has said previously he suffered memory loss after the incident.

The Headingley crowd are making the most of the catering on offer, a couple of fans juggle drinks and some fish and chips as they make their way back to the seats.

Adil Rashid finds some bounce and turn which beats Bairstow's bat. This is some battle!

They have starved Jonny Bairstow of strike, hoping to frustrate him and making him play a false stroke.

  19. Fire 52-1published at Ball 35

Bairstow can absolutely smoke a cricket ball, he hits another one cleanly but it falls on the bounce to a fielder in the deep.

Mujeeb misfields to gift Welsh Fire an extra run. We've already seen in this tournament how important it is to be on the money in the field.

Duckett attempts a cheeky scoop over the wicketkeeper but can't connect.

Rashid knows he is an important cog in this Superchargers machine, there to take wickets. He is trying to force batsmen to make mistakes in hitting him to that long boundary on the leg side.
