  1. WI 19-2published at 4 overs

    Gayle 9, Hetmyer 1

Here's a lesser-spotted single for Chris Gayle. The 42-year-old looked pretty spritely there. It's a decent comeback from Woakes after the early boundaries.

  2. WI 17-2published at 3.2 overs

Four more! Chris Gayle is into his work.

It was a beautiful shot, a proper cricket shot.

Chris Gayle just lent on that. It was a lovely-timed stroke.

  5. WI 13-2published at 3.1 overs

Ah, this is more of what we expected. Chris Gayle gets his first boundary with a gentle drive through the covers. The big man has hardly hit that but it's still four.

    Andy Zaltzman
    BBC Test Match Special statistician

West Indies have the highest dot-ball percentage in the powerplay of the 12 teams since the last T20 World Cup in 2016, but they have the fourth-highest scoring rate in that period too.

  7. WI 9-2published at 3 overs

A wicket-maiden for Moeen Ali. England can't have hoped for much better than this.

  8. WI 9-2published at 2.5 overs

Hetmyer isn't bothering with a cap, nevermind a helmet. His blue hair is on show for all to see.

    Moeen joins the dots...

Surely with the money earned from the IPL Shimron Hetmyer could have afforded to dye his hair maroon after it finished?

Shimron Hetmyer is West Indies' number four. He still has his Delhi Capitals blue hair.

I was wondering when he was going to run down the wicket but Moeen Ali just cramped him for room. It is beautiful bowling by Moeen.

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 2.2 overs

    Simmons c Livingstone b Moeen 3 (WI 9-2)

England have another! This is just the start Eoin Morgan would have wanted. Moeen punches the air after Lendl Simmons hits one straight down deep mid-wicket's throat.

    England are on it.

Chris Gayle has a point to prove because he's a verbal thing going on with a West Indies Curtly Ambrose.

  14. WI 9-1published at 2 overs

Good work from Jason Roy who dives to prevent Gayle getting his first run. He throws down the stumps too. Good intent from England early on.

Two runs and a wicket from Woakes' over.

Here's the Universe Boss, Chris Gayle.

It is a tremendous catch because the lights are circular at this ground and if it goes up it can get lost in them.

It was a tough chance because it was swirling in the air and he was running back.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 1.3 overs

    Lewis c Moeen b Woakes 6 (WI 8-1)

Chris Woakes strikes! And it's a fine catch from Moeen Ali.

Evin Lewis skies a slower ball from Woakes a mile into the night's sky and Moeen has to run back from mid-off. With the ball dropping over his shoulder Moeen snaffles a difficult catch without any fuss.

    Great start for England.
