Delicate by the big fella!
Just waited for the ball and back-cutted it beautifully.

Delicate by the big fella!
Just waited for the ball and back-cutted it beautifully.
Is that the 50? It's a lovely shot, Overton leaning back and cutting... but Neil Wagner hauls the ball in just before it reaches the rope!
Naturally, he's booed by the fans down there for stopping in. And then laughed at as he stumbles over trying to throw the ball back.
Shot!
Short, wide, and clattered for four by Jamie Overton. He's four runs away from a half-century on Test debut.

Overton just needs to be careful against the spin bowler. Play for your mate Jonny Bairstow.
He has played wonderfully well so far, it would be a shame if he threw it away with a silly shot now.
Nice take from Tom Blundell, mind you.
I mean, his foot hasn't moved an inch into the air.
Jamie Overton nearly topples over as he has a swing at Michael Bracewell.
We're going to check the stumping but no-one is particularly excited about it.
Jonny Bairstow, folks.
Jeremy Coney
Former New Zealand captain on BBC Test Match Special
How long can New Zealand allow this run rate to keep going?
We talked about Jack Leach yesterday and how he was able to keep the scoring rate supressed. But already the England batters are not allowing young Bracewell to settle.
So who do New Zealand bowl at that end? They have had long spells for Southee and Boult, and Wagner is already on.
They are running out of bowlers.
Wagner keeps the damage to a minimum for the rest of the over.
And now Jonny Bairstow is in on the act, a huge swing of the arms carting Neil Wagner just short of the fans in the Western Stand.
Another thunderous pull is well-stopped in the deep, keeping Bairstow to just two, before Wagner attempts one of the more optimistic lbw appeals you'll see.
Trail by 172 runs
Jamie Overton!
The fast bowler takes a confident couple of steps down the pitch and lofts Michael Bracewell high and long down the ground.
Whoops. That's a bit of nonsense from Michael Bracewell, a proper long-hop, and it's summarily smacked through mid-wicket by Jonny Bairstow.
A nice push from Bairstow brings up England's 150 which, given that they were 55-6 when these two joined forces, is some good going.
Superb.

Totally agree with the esteemed Jeremy Coney.
Coney Smith, Macclesfield
What a shot that is. Another lean back and whip of the wrists from Jonny Bairstow to send Wagner's first ball to the fence.
A slap to cover from Bairstow is nicely struck but cut off by a kneeling fielder.
The magnificent Neil Wagner is back.
A smattering of singles are all that come from the remainder of Bracewell's over.
Spin! Here's Michael Bracewell.
He's promptly paddled for four by Jamie Overton first up.
The always-eloquent Jeremy Coney came out with a superb quote a little earlier.
When chatting to our own Matthew Henry, Coney turned to him and simply said "Matthew, I do not trust people who have two first names."
Outstanding.
