That was a nasty ball. It was quick, hostile, and it climbed.

Ooh, that's lively.
Daryl Mitchell dabs a single into the onside to Tom Blundell on strike, and his first delivery of the day is a fizzing bouncer from Overton that forces him into evasive action.
Classic loosener first up from Overton, drifting down leg and forcing Ben Foakes into an athletic dive to his left.

It's Stuart Broad's birthday today - you think he might have had a go first up!
It looks like it will be Jamie Overton who will open the bowling this morning.
The ball is just 10 overs old don't forget.

I'm a big admirer of Jack because he has had so many obstacles in front of him over the last few years and he has overcome them all. I still think he needs more matches. The way the game is structured makes that difficult. I think he bowled pretty well but he could bowl better.
England spinner Jack Leach, speaking to Test Match Special: "The last Test I played here I got a wicket first ball as well. It's always nice, as any bowler, to get a wicket early. It's nice to get into your stride.
"I'm getting there. I still always feel like I've probably got a little bit more I can offer and I'm not quite there. It was good toil yesterday and I felt like I stuck to my task prety well.
"I know they're going to play me quite aggressively and I managed to stop the flow of runs."
On the Nicholls wicket: "I didn't think it was out. It felt so lucky I was like I can't get that, surely? I felt a bit sorry for him.
"Cricket is a silly game! With things like that yesterday you have to keep enjoying it."
Here come the players onto the field to warm applause as Headingley continues to fill up nicely.
Gone is the glorious sunshine of 24 hours ago, but crucially it is dry.
England will hope the cloud cover will offer some assistance to the bowlers in this first hour.

Former New Zealand captain on BBC Test Match Special
New Zealand are a bit behind in the game. It is a sluggish pitch and it's going to stay like that. I think New Zealand have picked the wrong side. They're asking a spinner in his second Test match to lead the bowling when the most wickets he has taken in a season is 10. Ajaz Patel took that many in one innings of a Test.

I managed to get through all of yesterday at Headingley without saying "you don't look down, you look up..." but I am going to say it today. Top of off stump with the new ball and something will happen.

There was a bit of talk around Ben Stokes' fitness yesterday after he did not bowl all day.
After play Jack Leach gave nothing away but suggested his skipper is fit.
Stokes has done a bit of bowling on the practice pitches this morning.

Tuffers may well be spot on with that assessment, Matthew.
It looks like we will be fine this morning, but the afternoon and evening sessions may see some disruption.
Let's hope we get lucky and Headingley dodges the showers.

Good morning.
Lots of chat about the weather today among the TMS crew. Tuffers has been told there’ll be heavy rain at 1pm.
It’s certainly cloudier than yesterday but nothing yet.
That only tells half the story however. We also witnessed a freak Test match wicket for the ages.
Henry Nicholls was bizarrely dismissed after his shot deflected off team-mate Daryl Mitchell's bat and into the hands of Alex Lees.
Does Question of Sport still have the 'What Happens Next' round?
Daryl Mitchell's only mistake came when he missed an inswinger from Matthew Potts playing across his pad.
Ben Stokes opted not to review but the technology suggested the ball would have hit middle stump.
Mitchell was on just eight at the time. Will England continue to rue that error this morning?
Yes Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell are again proving a thorn in England's side as they combined to dig New Zealand out of a hole once more on day one.
After winning the toss the Black Caps were reduced to 123-5 at one stage, but recovered to reach 225 without further loss at close.
Mitchell, who already has two centuries in the series, ended 78 not out while Blundell is unbeaten on 45.
The duo have combined for an unbroken stand of 102 so far to follow partnerships 195 in the first Test and 236 in the second.
Welcome to coverage of day two of the third Test between England and New Zealand at Headingley, where the hosts have a familiar problem on their hands...
