A lovely shot. It was full from Boult and Overton didn't have a massive swing, just played a gentle off drive. It was a very controlled forward push.

Shot!
Jamie Overton leans on a Trent Boult delivery and sends it gently back down the ground and away for four. Lovely.

Do we all think we're not part of the problem? We sensationalise wins and losses. We are not interested in a performing team that will win some, lose some. Just look at the language we were using last week, world beaters to this week, woeful! The bowling has been great and if we adopt this style this will happen. Deal with it.

We could have meandered through the last Test and played conservatively in this one, with everyone going home happy with a 1-0 series victory. As it is, worst case scenario, we end with a 2-1 series win, including one of the all-time great Tests. I know which I'd prefer!

Middled. It's a half-volley from Tim Southee and Bairstow drills it through cover for four. There to be hit but terrific timing.
Another Bairstow drive through the off side brings up England's 100. This partnership is now worth 46.

Has anybody thought maybe it's the drawing board that needs replacing?

Overton defends in solid fashion to end the over.
Yep, missing the stumps.
As you were. New Zealand have just one review left.
Kane Williamson isn't a terrific judge of when to use the review system, you know.
That said... it's hit Overton on the knee roll as he moves forward, but it doesn't quite feel right.
A single brings the tall figure of Jamie Overton on strike and he's rapped low on the pad by Trent Boult...
Boult likes this, I'm not so sure and Kane Williamson, after a lengthy deliberation, sends it upstairs.
Here's Trent Boult.
Bairstow 34, Overton 16
Southee tickles the outside edge of Bairstow's bat with his second delivery, and Bairstow wisely lets the rest of the over go swinging past his off stump.
Tim Southee will get things going after tea.
Also: if this performance stops everyone using the phrase 'Baz-Ball' then I'm all for it. It sounds like a dog toy.
Right. Cricket!
England will resume on 91-6, trailing by loads. Or by 238 runs for those of you who like to be specific.
This is also the gamble with England's attacking style. Sometimes it will come off, like it did last week in such stunning, enjoyable and actually quite moving fashion. Sometimes, it'll end like this.
It's risk-reward. It's on England to find that balance.

Tim Binsley: If I were Alex Lees and Zak Crawley, I wouldn’t bother taking my pads off just yet.

Neil Wagner must be a captain's dream.
Give him the ball and he will run in for you on flat pitches all day.
Also, in England's defence, they did face a lot of very good bowling.
I think those Trent Boult deliveries would have got most people out. Albeit most of them might not have made it look quite as bad as Ollie Pope did.
How I've missed days like this and the absolute fury it brings out in people.
When Stokes said that England would look to entertain people, I'm not sure being 55-6 was exactly what he had in mind.
Still. You genuinely cannot take your eyes off them.
