  1. SA 55-5published at 13 overs

    Target 202

Ali gets through his over rather hastily and just six come from it.

Good on two counts for England, another over down and South Africa slip further behind the required rate, which has now pushed north of nine an over.

Paul Cunningham: If Bairstow stared me down like that I’d run and buy him a drink and apologise for I know not what.

  3. SA 49-5published at 12 overs

    Target 202

The spinners were excellent for South Africa but with the rain falling, it is getting increasingly difficult for Rashid to grip the ball.

Seven from the over. Despite the rain, we are going to see more spin, here comes Moeen Ali. Getting through the overs looks to be the priority for England.

  4. SA 42-5published at 11 overs

    Target 202

Another over down, England need to race through nine more as quickly as possible as the rain continues to fall.

Just three runs from it. No great aggression from South Africa as yet, plenty of time for them to change tact if the rain doesn't save them, I guess.

  5. SA 39-5published at 10.1 overs

We are now back underway. The delay was to do with the electronic advertisement hoardings being moved, leaving a white cover on the floor visible. That apparently was distracting Klaasen.

England weren't impressed and there is a bit of aggression from Bairstow as he fields the first ball of the Curran over, shaping to shy at the stumps and giving Klaasen a very stern glare.

    It is raining quite steadily.

We need another 10 overs to constitute a game. This delay isn't helping England's cause.

The rain does seem to be getting a little heavier.

  8. Postpublished at 20:08 British Summer Time 22 July 2022

There is some delay, Heinrich Klaasen looks like he wants to go off for rain. It doesn't look to be raining too heavily.

England, understandably, want to stay out there.

  9. SA 39-5published at 10 overs

    Target 202

Lovely shot from Klaasen, he picks the googly from Rashid and thumps it smartly through the covers off the back foot. Four runs. A rare boundary in this South Africa innings.

That makes it 10 from the leg-spinner's first over.

OK, this is the one we've been waiting for. Sit back, relax and enjoy this brilliant bit of fielding from Jos Buttler to remove Aiden Markram for a diamond duck.

  11. SA 29-5published at 9 overs

    Target 202

Just three from Curran's first over, two from the last ball as new man Dwaine Pretorius hits firmly past mid-off.

It looks like we're going to see a bit of spin now. Adil Rashid is preparing to bowl the next over.

It was smart from Curran. He got the angle to perfection.

I wasn't expecting this. England look really, really fired up.

    Miller b Curran 12 (SA 27-5)

Bowled 'im! Sam Curran gets in on the act in his first over.

The left-arm seamer gets rid of dangerous left-hander David Miller. He played back and the ball cannoned into off stump.

England are jubilant and the crowd are loving it.

What a start it has been for England, four early wickets and here are the first three. Two for Topley, one for Willey.

  16. SA 26-4published at 8 overs

    Target 202

So close to a nick, a play and a miss from Miller. Full, swinging delivery and the left-hander pokes tentatively at it.

No edge this time but another good over from Willey. The required rate is inching up towards 8.5 an over.

  18. SA 23-4published at 7 overs

    Target 202

Miller and Klaasen look to be trying to rebuild for South Africa. In a shortened game, these quiet overs are ideal for England.

Of course, they'll want to push on and get another wicket or two quickly but pushing the required rate up and up is a decent second option.

  20. SA 19-4published at 6 overs

    Target 202

Finally, sanity is restored to Old Trafford with a quiet over from Willey, just a single from it.

I've just seen that run out from Buttler again and I don't think I quite did it justice, it was not so much an underarm throw as a sidearm flick. Quite incredible.
