Dexter The Frenchie: If South Africa are to save this Test, Elgar will need to compose a masterpiece of both hope and glory.
As he did in the first innings, Ollie Robinson will share new ball duties.
One over safely negotiated by South Africa. Eight more to go.
That last delivery was going well over the top, by the way.

Was there a snick or feather on it? Actually it looked a bit high.
Oh, they like this!
Sarel Erwee is thumped firmly on the pad by James Anderson and Old Trafford joins in the roaring appeal...
That looked high, to me, and Anderson turns away from any possible review discussions.
Trail by 264
It'll be Sarel Erwee to face the first ball, which drifts harmlessly down the leg side.

The crowd are singing James Anderson's name. They would love one wicket tonight. Preferably South Africa captain Dean Elgar. That would ideal.
James Anderson has had a lovely day sat down doing a crossword and still looks unfathomably grumpy. What a hero.
He'll open the bowling, anyway.

Sometimes in these short periods you can get a little bit carried away searching for wickets. I'm sure James Anderson will be on it, though.
Right then, here come England...
Ben Foakes, having been out there batting for an awfully long time, is now doing some stretching to loosen up for keeping wicket.

Rachel T: Quite right. Keep the GOAT fresh for bowling.
VoiceOfTheMysterons: No point in wasting the time it would take Jimmy to walk out, and then walk back in again, then.

Tom Palmer: I criticised Ben Foakes the other day on his batting form and I'm happy to eat my words. Sometimes you get delight in being forced to eat your own words.
Dean Elgar and Sarel Erwee will have to see out nine overs of James Anderson, Stuart Broad et al tonight.
It's also, conviently, got a bit murkier and a bit cloudier down the road at Old Trafford.

That's a nice delivery, actually, to get rid of Jack Leach. Ben Foakes gets appluaded by the crowd. He's batted superbly today. It's his best Test innings, a valuable one and looks like it has batted South Africa out of the game.
England have a very, very healthy lead of 264 and a handy nine over spell this evening.
Ben Foakes walks off the pitch with a huge smile on his face, a superb, unbeaten 113 to his name.
Leach b Maharaj 11 (Eng 415-9)
Jack Leach is cleaned up by Keshav Maharaj - and England have declared!
Vernon Philander
Former South Africa bowler on BBC Test Match Special
Right now all you want as a bowler is these last couple of wickets and be able to put your feet up for a while, but for the batters they are not particularly keen to go out and bat for 10 overs or so. The South Africa batters will be talking about damage limitation.
