Those three figures are magical in cricket. There is no logic to it but it means that much more.

Foakes 103, Robinson 17
Ben Foakes' last century came on his Test debut against Sri Lanka in Galle back in November 2018.
The celebration - bowed head, clench of the first, a yell of delight before turning to appreciate the crowd - says it all.

It was a poor delivery releasing the pressure and a second Test hundred from Ben Foakes. He has produced when England needed it, and it's an excellent hundred. A lovely joyous moment for him at Old Trafford.
A second Test hundred for Ben Foakes!
That is, simply, a very, very good century from a batter who was under a little bit of scrutiny after Lord's. Lovely stuff.
Foakes absolutely nails a pull shot but it's straight to the man at mid-wicket.
Stokes, watching on from the balcony, looks more stressed than anyone.

You have to give Ben Foakes a lot of credit. Everyone is raving about Ben Stokes but he needed someone around to help build his innings.
Dot, dot, dot...

Bob Hawkins: Why declare? There’s still three days of play.
A single takes Foakes to 98 and, crucially, ensures he keeps the strike when Anrich Nortje returns to bowl.
Keshav Maharaj will resume after drinks, with Ben Foakes on the brink of a century.

South Africa are a long way behind in this game. England are dictating terms, and I wonder if they have an eye on bowling at South Africa this evening. The only way back into this game for the tourists is a huge score in their next innings.
Here's how the Nighthawk fell, incidentally.
South Africa still have a minimum of 18 overs to endure this evening.

Foakes is tantalisingly close to his hundred. It would mean a lot in these conditions and against this attack.
It is DAY TWO.

I don't think I'd declare while this pair are batting together.
Ben Stokes is wearing an excellent pair of sunglasses up on the England balcony.
Ben Foakes, meanwhile, will take the strike at the start of the next over, with 97 runs to his name.

What a shot that is, creamed away off the back foot by Robinson. Once it has beaten the fielder, that's four runs.
Ollie Robinson!
The England bowler plays a beautiful drive off the back foot to pick up four through the covers. Lovely.

After Lord's, where he had a bad match with the bat, Foakes has been terrific today and that is a fine shot.
