    Well, that's it for another day. All done well inside seven o'clock. And who would have called that in this day and age of County Championship cricket.

    All seven teams who batted first this morning were all still batting at the close of play.

    England captain Ben Stokes, picked by Durham to get some batting practice, didn't get a bat.

    And, even more astonishingly, Essex and Yorkshire even finished on time - bang on six o'clock.

    Liam Dawson is the not-out batsman overnight on 31.

    It's a sixth wicket of the session for Gloucestershire, who have rallied well.

    From 225-2, home skipper James Vince's loose dismissal has proved a bit of a turning point.

    But they could still run them for under 300 in the morning.

    Rory Burns the star of the day - 107 his first century since June last year.

    Northants chipped away well at the other end but Sam Curran, who walks off 71 not out, has kept Surrey ticking over.

    Hampshire reel in their their batting point thanks to a typically positive little cameo from Keith Barker in company with Liam Dawson.

    Ben Sanderson picks up his second wicket with the second new ball.

    And then Gus Atkinson strikes a boundary to raise the Surrey 250.

    Solid effort from Dom Sibley to bat through the day.

    But for his first Warwickshire century in three seasons, Lancashire would be right on top in this game.

    As it is, the reconstructed Sibley goes to the close still undefeated on 118, in the company of Nathan McAndrew.

    Rory Burns can’t see out the day either.

    Ben Sanderson has picked him up with the second new ball.

    So a well-played-but-not-stealing-the-show hundred from Burns.

    And it’s probably the innings of the show-stealing kind he needs to force his way back into the England Test side.

    Yes that’s right, close of play bang on the advertised time!

    Wonder if that might catch on?

    Anyway, a great day for Essex.

    They were stuck in but a stand of 174 between Alastair Cook and Paul Walter has dominated the day.

    Cook went to his second hundred of the season but couldn’t get through to the close.

    Walter walks off not out 89 but survived two dropped catches before tea.

    Yorkshire will be cursing their decision at the toss but did at least earn a point late in the day.

    Two wickets in three balls for Lancashire.

    Danny Briggs edges to second slip, Keaton Jennings takes a very good catch and Hassan Ali finally gets in on the wicket-taking act.

    The new ball has done the trick for the hosts - but they still haven't got Dom Sibley out, He remains on 117.

    Next man is new Aussie signing Nathan McAndrew.

    It's been a very difficult 11 months for Rory Burns.

    The slump in form since performing well against New Zealand last summer.

    The humiliation of a diamond duck first ball of the Ashes (that surely has a name all of its own).

    Being left out of the West Indies tour.

    And then a poor start to the summer.

    But here he is back making centuries on a golden afternoon at The Oval.

    245 balls and 10 boundaries.

    With his fifth delivery with the new ball, Tom Bailey makes another breakthrough as he wins an LBW decision against Chris Benjamin.

    His stand with Don Sibley was worth 99.

    Centurion Sibley remains on 113, joined now by wicketkeeper Michael Burgess, who had already made two centuries himself this season.

    Second hundred of the season for the former England captain.

    He pokes forward at Jordan Thompson and sort-of deliberately runs four to third man to go to 99.

    Then next ball he cuts him backward of point for a 14th boundary and a century in 255 balls.

    A 71st first-class hundred.
