  2. Lunch in Southamptonpublished at 13:04 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Hampshire 70-2 v Gloucestershire

Felix Organ is on 31 at lunch after an even morning at Southampton.

Two wickets for the visitors in a session largely dominated by the 61-run stand between Organ and Nick Gubbins.

  3. Lunch at The Ovalpublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Surrey 73-1 v Northants

A very good morning for Surrey having lost the toss.

They lost Ryan Patel to a lazy drive and Hashim Amla got away with an edge just wide of slip.

But Amla is there on 19, and Rory Burns, 33, to get their side to lunch.

There's certainly grass on the wicket but not much to show for Northants' decision to bowl so far.

  4. Lunch at Chelmsfordpublished at 13:01 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Essex 63-2 v Yorks

    An even morning in Essex.

Nick Browne fell in the opening over and then Tom Westley to Dom Bess' fourth ball of the day.

But Alastair Cook is steady on 31 and Paul Walter is with him at lunch on 4.

Most importantly...the allocation of 32 overs has been bowled!

Easily done if you put your mind to it cricketers.

  5. Lunch in Manchesterpublished at 13:00 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Warwickshire 84-2 v Lancashire

Dom Sibley completes his most satisfying morning of the summer so far.

Despite the early loss of Alex Davies and seeing Rob Yates also clean bowled at the other end, he has remained becalmed.

He has hit six boundaries so far in his 44, while Sam Hain is already on to 19.

  6. Postpublished at 12:50 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Surrey 59-1 v Northants

Ooo Hashim Amla with a big life.

He drives flat-footedly at Tom Taylor and edges towards third slip.

It's gone quickly past the shoulder of Emilio Gay and it would have been a tremendous one-handed catch had he got there.

Amla follows up by nudging Matt Kelly through the covers for another boundary.

    Westley c †Duke b Bess 24 (Essex 56-2 v Yorks)

The introduction of spin brings Yorkshire a second wicket.

A nothing ball - flat outside off from Dom Bess - that Tom Westley goes back to try and cut.

He's a fraction off balance and edges to Harry Duke behind the stumps.

    Bess strikes fourth ball.

    Essex 50-1 v Yorks

Tom Westley then nudges Steve Patterson to long leg to raise the Essex fifty.

Runs beginning to come at Chelmsford.

  12. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:11 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Patel c Kerrigan b Procter 19 (Surrey 31-1 v Northants)

Here's the breakthrough for Northants and it's Luke Procter who's made it.

Round the wicket to Ryan Patel, he's there way too soon with an attempted drive and just lobs it to cover.

    A very tame end.

  13. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:09 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Yates b Wood 15 (Warwickshire 35-2 v Lancashire)

Second wicket of the morning for the hosts as Luke Wood comprehensively bowls Rob Yates.

The former Worcestershire left-armer simply beats left-hander Yates with a yorker that significantly rearranges his furniture.

"An absolute snorter" says David Lloyd on the commentary.

Sam Hain comes in to join Dom Sibley.

  14. Postpublished at 12:05 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Essex 38-1 v Yorks

Since the loss of Nick Browne, Essex have settled well.

Tom Westley has whipped Jordan Thompson to the midwicket fence and glanced Steve Patterson to long leg for four more.

Ali Cook has added a lofted straight drive to his boundary count.

He was there too early against Matt Revis and it was catchable height but just wide of the bowler.

  15. Division Two round-uppublished at 12:04 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

Good early progress for most batters in Division Two.

Leicestershire openers Hassan Azad and Sam Evans have reached 36-0 against Glamorgan after being put in by the visitors.

Sussex, who chose to bat at Hove, have reached 38-1 against Middlesex for the loss of only skipper Tom Haines for 17.

And Durham openers Alex Lees and Sean Dickson have made a sound start after the visitors won the toss at Worcester. They have already reached 50 without loss.

  16. Postpublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Surrey 21-0 v Northants

Lovely, tight, probing stuff as ever from Ben Sanderson.

A thick inside edge from Ryan Patel whistles past short leg and runs to the short deep square boundary.

Rory Burns being kept very honest at the other end.

Nice start from Northants but no reward yet.

  17. Organ and Gubbins repair damagepublished at 11:43 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Hampshire 30-1 v Gloucestershire

Two boundaries each now for Felix Organ and Nick Gubbins as Hampshire repair the damage following the early loss of Ian Holland.

Gubbins is the man in form, after his two centuries in the rain-ruined match against Lancashire last week.

Hampshire have Aneurin Donald in their line-up for the first time since September 2019 after missing two complete seasons following reconstructive knee surgery.

  18. Postpublished at 11:28 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Essex 10-1 v Yorks

35 balls it's taken for Essex to open their account but they're underway.

Alastair Cook then drives Jordan Thompson oh-so gloriously through mid-off for the game's opening boundary.

  19. Postpublished at 11:21 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Surrey 11-0 v Northants

Surrey inserted at The Oval on a pitch with a green tinge but a steady 20 minutes.

Ryan Patel has driven the opening boundary sweetly through mid-off.

Northants very competitive in all three games so far - but yet to win.

They will be annoyed not to have completed the job last week when so heavily on top at Essex.

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:15 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Holland c Bracey b Higgins 2 (Hampshire 3-0 v Gloucestershire)

Early strike too for Gloucestershire all-rounder Ryan Higgins at Southampton as he has Ian Holland caught behind in the third over.

New man in is Nick Gubbins.
