  1. 200 runs

up for Surreypublished at 17:19 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Surrey 201-4 v Northants

Northants will also be pondering their decision at the toss as the Surrey 200 comes up.

Rory Burns moves into the 90s this is a golden chance to put up a big one to remind everyone of his talent.

Having Sam Curran at the other end will no doubt take the pressure off.

He's stepped out to Simon Kerrigan and whacked him over his head for six.

  2. 200 runs

up for Essexpublished at 17:12 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Essex 209-2 v Yorks

Probably about now, Yorkshire will be thinking, perhaps we could have been braver and batted first.

Because this has become a wonderful day for Essex.

Paul Walter is down at Dom Bess again and he takes him straight on the bounce into the Hayes Close End.

He then puts away probably the worst ball of the day from Jordan Thompson - a tired, wide half-volley.

Alastair Cook then takes Thompson off the back then front foot for boundaries through the off side to raise the 200 and go into the 90s.

  3. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Organ c Goodman b Singh-Dale 107 (Hampshire 236-4 v Lancashire)

Gloucestershire make the breakthrough as Ajeet Singh-Dale comes on to remove centurion Felix Organ.

It follows James Vince's departure just six overs earlier, as can so often happen.

Ben Brown is the new man in to join Liam Dawson.

  4. 100 runs

Century for Dom Sibleypublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Warwickshire 208-4 v Lancashire

Dom Sibley clips a single into the offside to reach the 16th first-class century of his career - and his first for Warwickshire since being dropped by England.

It's Sibley's first ton since 2019 for the Bears and his second at Old Trafford - but his first in front of a crowd (if you can call it that!), as that first one was for England against the West Indies in one of the Covid Tests in July 2020.

After a lot of hard work remodelling his batting posture over the winter months, it's a marvellous moment for Sibley. But his muted celebration suggests he already has his eye on a lot more yet.

  5. Postpublished at 16:53 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Surrey 174-4 v Northants

No-one puts Ben Sanderson in the corner.

But Sam Curran is having a dip.

He's slapped him through cover point, tickled him to fine leg and then edged him wide of the cordon for boundaries.

But the scoring has been under two-and-a-half all day.

    Northants still go okay.

Rory Burns into the 80s, looking for a first century since June last year.

  6. 50 runs

50 stand for Sibley & Benjaminpublished at 16:49 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Warwickshire 199-4 v Lancashire

Dom Sibley still going well on 99.

Chris Benjamin has bedded in well too, on 25.

  7. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:42 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

Vince lbw Amir 78 (Hampshire 225-3 v Gloucestershire)

Gloucestershire make a key breakthrough 12 overs before the new ball is due,

Hampshire skipper James Vince departs for 78, trapped in front by Mohammad Amir, who picks up a second wicket.

It's a poor shot, trying to work Amir through midwicket - and it ends a stand of 161 with Felix Organ, who is still there on 102.

New man at the crease is Liam Dawson.

  8. 100 runs

Century for Felix Organpublished at 16:32 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Hampshire 218-2 v Gloucestershire

Felix Organ reaches only his second first-class hundred, almost three years on from his maiden century.

He tucks Mohammad Air away for two runs to go to 101 - and celebrates with all the wild enthusiasm of a batter who hasn't hit a ton for three years!

That last ton was against Kent on this same ground in July 2019, when he was deputising for the injured Joe Weatherley - and it's the same story today. This time Weatherley is up in the commentary box talking about it.

With James Vince nearing a ton of his own on 72, their third-wicket stand is now up to 154,

for Paul Walterpublished at 16:25 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Essex 153-2 v Yorks

Paul Walter trying to make Yorkshire pay here.

He pulls Matt Revis for two through midwicket to bring him fifty in 145 balls with six fours.

He then smashes Dom Bess back down the ground - almost taking out Alastair Cook in the process - to raise the Essex 150.

And adds a flick to the fine leg fence for a boundary to bring up the hundred partnership.

  10. Teatime scoreboardpublished at 16:12 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Division One:

    Essex 138-2 (66 overs) v Yorkshire

    Hampshire 212-2 (64 overs) v Gloucestershire

    Warwickshire 169-4 (64 overs) v Lancashire

    Surrey 154-4 (64 overs) v Northants

    Division Two:

    Leicestershire 168-2 (64 overs) v Glamorgan

    Sussex 225-2 (63.2 overs) v Middlesex

    Durham 208-2 (64 overs) v Worcestershire

  11. Teatime in Southamptonpublished at 16:11 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Hampshire 212-2 v Gloucestershire

Hampshire take tea with Felix Organ just two runs short of a second first-class century.

James Vince also well set on 71.

  12. Gibbon grabs his first wicketpublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Durham 208-2 v Worcestershire

    Dan Wheeler
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

It has been a tough introduction to professional cricket for young left-arm seamer Ben Gibbon today.

The 21-year-old former Cheshire fast bowler is built for the job.

Honed from his days working on a building site, he’s tall, strong and has shoulders that could power press-ups for a fortnight.

He’s been tidy on his debut - an admirable achievement on a pitch offering precious little margin for error.

And he got his reward - albeit it from a bad misjudgement from the otherwise impeccable Keegan Petersen.

  13. Labuschagne a danger with the ball toopublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Leicestershire 168-2 v Glamorgan

    Ffion Wynne
    BBC Wales Sport

Some relief for Glamorgan spectators and bowlers, as they’ve managed to take two wickets in the afternoon session after a wicketless morning – but the batting side are still in control.

Sam Evans was first to fall, stumped off Marnus Labuschagne for 24.

The world's number one batter has looked like the most threatening bowler on day one so far, such is the nature of this pitch.

The bowlers can’t take too much credit for the second wicket, however.

Hassan Azad rebuilt nicely with number three Rishi Patel before running himself out calamitously on 64, coming back for a ridiculous second run down to fine leg, to a good throw from Sam Northeast.

  14. Tea at The Ovalpublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Surrey 154-4 v Northants

    This remains an even day.

Luke Procter took two wickets in two balls just after lunch but Surrey steadied until Ben Foakes' error.

Rory Burns still goes well though.

He takes tea 77 not out - his highest score of the season so far.

  15. Sussex hoping for more at Hovepublished at 16:00 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Sussex 225-2 v Middlesex

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

High drama on the stroke of tea as Ali Orr was caught one run short of what would have been his second first-class century.

Luke Holman claimed the wicket caught at first slip, to end a partnership of 204 between Orr and Tom Alsop, who had earlier reached his first hundred in Sussex colours with a sumptuous on drive for four.

This looks a very good wicket and with Cheteshwar Pujara and Mohammed Rizwan still to come, Sussex will be hoping for a substantial first-innings total.

  16. Essex continue to accumulate slowlypublished at 15:58 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Essex 138-2 v Yorkshire

    Glenn Speller
    BBC Essex Sport

A good session for Essex as they added 75 runs without loss, with Alastair Cook moving on to 62.

Paul Walter has continued where he left off against Northamptonshire, backing up his second innings 93 with an unbeaten 43.

But Yorkshire might rue their skipper, Steve Patterson, putting down a caught and bowled chance when he was on 12.

The pitch looks slow and low for the third time this season at Chelmsford which might make positive results tough to produce.

  17. Tea in Manchesterpublished at 15:53 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Warwickshire 169-4 v Lancashire

Dom Sibley (76) and Chris Benjamin (17) head for tea, having so far got Warwickshire going again with a stand of 28.

  18. Tea at Chelmsfordpublished at 15:47 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Essex 138-2 v Yorks

Paul Walter was missed twice in the session and he and Alastair Cook have taken Essex to tea in a strong position.

They will be delighted having been sent in.

Walter is 43 and Cook is 62.

This time, Yorkshire are over the allocation of overs for the session!

    Only 30 remain after tea.

There literally should be bonus points for getting through on time.

The current penalty system simply doesn't get the game going enough.

  19. Three overs from tea in Manchesterpublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Warwickshire 161-4 (61 overs) v Lancashire

Three overs to go until the tea interval at Old Trafford - and there is a lot of talk of cake in the commentary box.

Tremendously entertaining stuff as David 'Bumble' Lloyd has been in the house today. But the supporting cast - Scott Read, Richard Wilford and newcomer Phoebe Graham - have been very good value for money too.

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:25 British Summer Time 5 May 2022

    Foakes c †McManus b Taylor 16 (Surrey 133-4 v Northants)

    Oh, shocker from Ben Foakes.

Goes to pull Tom Taylor from way outside off, gets it all wrong and chips it in the air to the wicketkeeper.

    A failure for England's most-recent Test wicketkeeper.

Not at all good timing after talk of Jos Buttler returning as England Test vice-captain this week.

Nice pick-me-up for Northants, a third wicket since lunch, breaks a stand of 46.
