  1. Stokes not Superman after all then?published at 16:00 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Worcestershire 93-4, Durham 580-6 dec

    Dan Wheeler
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

It appears Ben Stokes’ superpowers have suffered a temporary shortage.

Now with ball in hand, following his earlier batting heroics, Stokes is bounding in trying to deepen the ditch Worcestershire are in.

But physics defied him when Ed Barnard chopped a ball down into his pads and saw it roll back on to the stumps only for the bails to refuse to budge.

Together with skipper Brett D’Oliveira, Worcestershire will hope that’s not the end of their good luck.

  2. Tea at The Ovalpublished at 15:58 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Surrey 401 v Northants 87-5

At 271-8 at 11.30am Northants were bang in the game.

But at the moment they are seriously tottering and could be bombed out of the contest in the final session unless they can find some resolve.

  3. Tea in Manchesterpublished at 15:56 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Lancashire 127-0, Warwickshire 315

Lancashire openers Keaton Jennings and Luke Wells have batted throughout the second session.

Wells is on 70. Jennings is on 44, on his return after injury.

A good response after Warwickshire's Dom Sibley-dominated 315 all out.

  4. Tea in Southamptonpublished at 15:56 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Gloucestershire 111-7, Hampshire 342

Gloucestershire still look a long way short of not being asked to follow on as they go to tea in Southampton.

20 minutes for the Hampshire bowlers to get their collective breath back.

    Zaib c †Foakes b Overton 2 (Surrey 401 v Northants 81-5)

Another for Surrey as they approach tea at The Oval.

Back of a length from Jamie Overton.

It nips away a tad and bounces a smidge.

Enough to catch the edge of Saif Zaib’s bat.

  6. 100 runs

    Lancashire 108-0, Warwickshire 315

But he finally perishes as he top edges a slog sweep off Felix Organ to Ian Holland at deep midwicket.

Seven fours from his 72-ball knock.

Jared Warner comes in to join Dom Goodman, who is on 10.

  8. wicket

ESSEX ALL OUT 403published at 15:27 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Essex 403 v Yorks

An excellent late hand from Simon Harmer, slugging 54 to push Essex past 400.

He’s finally gone after striking five fours and three sixes.

Yorkshire will be absolutely delighted and are still in the game.

At 303-3 Essex were set for a massive number but now it’s only a large one.

    They take tea at Chelmsford.

  9. 100 runs

100 up for Gloucestershirepublished at 15:25 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Gloucestershire 103-6, Hampshire 342

After putting on 30 for the sixth wicket with Tom Lace, Ryan Higgins has now added another 30 with Dom Goodman.

Avoiding the threat of a follow-on is still the immediate target though. Another 90 needed to do that.

Higgins is going well on 45.

  10. 50 runs

Half century for Luke Wellspublished at 15:08 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Lancashire 85-0, Warwickshire 315

    Luke Wells' half-century

90 balls. Nine fours, Nice knock.

    Wells' 57th first-class fifty.

He has so far converted 19 of them into centuries in his career.

He might yet reach three figures in this innings. But it might not happen today.

The Manchester weather is closing in - and the local experts are already suggesting that we won’t be playing beyond the next half hour.

46 overs left in the day. And the only immediate concern is what time will tea be.

WICKETpublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Keogh c †Foakes b de Grandhomme 16 (Surrey 401 v Northants 59-4)

Surrey have been absolutely all over Northants since 11.30.

    Poor one from Rob Keogh.

He tries to force off the back foot a ball too close to do so and edges behind.

Northants need to be very very careful here.

  13. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Pollock c Eckersley b Potts 32 (Worcestershire 41-4, Durham 5806 dec)

Another wicket for Durham paceman Matty Potts at New Road.

Worcestershire opener Ed Pollock is caught behind - and Potts now has all four.

It might take another six for Potts and then all 10 in the second before the close to stop Ben Stokes making the headlines today though!

  14. wicket

WICKETSpublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Essex 345-9 v Yorks

Goodness what a collapse this is by Essex.

Another two fall in five balls.

Matt Critchley was bowled by Jordan Thompson with one that scuttled through into the off stump.

Later in the over Shane Snater drove at a full ball and edged to second slip.

Adam Lyth with a chest-high catch at the second attempt.

Things were very gently meandering along at Chelmsford but now Essex have lost 6-43.

  15. Ben Stokes knocks' em bandypublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Dan Wheeler
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

Battered and bruised and knocked bandy by brilliant Ben Stokes,

Worcestershire have succumbed to the monstrous momentum swing in this game.

Stokes’ astonishing innings sucked the life out of the home side and the hangover has continued in their reply.

Matty Potts has carried on the torment, bagging all three to fall so far.

Jake Libby, Azhar Ali and Jack Haynes all gone in a game where batting suddenly looks very different.

Worcestershire look dazed and confused. But we all are, to be honest.

  16. 50 runs

Half century up for Glosterspublished at 14:40 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Gloucestershire 54-5 v Hampshire 342

Gloucestershire also bring up their 50 - but in slightly less glorious circumstances.

They are already five down - and Ryan Higgins and Tom Lace are trying to batten down the hatches.

  17. 50 runs

Half century stand for Lancashire openerspublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Warwickshire 315, Lancashire 58-0

Lancashire openers Keaton Jennings and Luke Wells cruise past 50.

Wells brings up the half century with a beautiful on drive, his seventh four.

  18. Nightmare start for Pearspublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Durham 580-6 dec, Worcestershire 15-3

After the Ben Stokes carnage comes the hangover for shell-shocked Worcestershire.

They lost both Jake Libby and Azhar Ali to the second and fifth balls of the second over, bowled by Matty Potts.

And now Potts has struck again in his next over to earn an LBW shout against Jack Haynes.

    Ouch!!!

What a situation for home skipper Brett D'Oliveira to walk into, to pair up with opener Ed Pollock.

  19. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Vasconcelos c †Foakes b Worrall 14 (Surrey 401 v Northants 28-3)

Second wicket in five balls and now Northants are in a huge hole.

Their best player, Ricardo Vasconcelos, gets one that leaves him enough from Dan Worrall to take the edge behind.

  20. Bad light in Manchester?published at 14:24 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Lancashire 47-0 v Warwickshire 315

Umpires Nigel Llong and Graham 'son of Bumble' Lloyd have just had a brief consultation about the light.

Admittedly, it's not as nice a day as yesterday. And the forecast for later is a bit iffy. But it's still nice enough to play.

Carry on as you were men . . .
