Fifty for Gus Atkinson as well as the century stand comes up for the ninth wicket.

Great stuff from Surrey and serous hurt for Northants.

Century for Stokespublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Durham 4984 v Worcestershire

That is rapidly followed by a century after Stokes has just hit 34 in one over off spinner Josh Baker.

    6-6-6-6-6-4.

Brutal cricket. And he was only just a couple of yards off that sixth six.

10 sixes and seven fours in his 104, having almost caught up David Bedingham (111).

Ben Stokes was just a spectator for most of day one at New Road, apart from a quick training run

Stokes' 64-ball century is the fastest first-class ton in Durham's 30-year history, beating Paul Collingwood, who hit the previous best off 75 balls.

Half century for Stokes at Worcesterpublished at 12:35 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Durham 470-4 v Worcestershire

Ben Stokes still going very well at New Road.

Six sixes and six fours so far in his 76 off 60 balls.

    Wooooof!!!

  4. wicket

    Cook b Hill 28 (Essex 303-4 v Yorks)

Breakthrough for Yorkshire from George Hill’s seamers.

Sam Cook had done a very good job as nightwatchman but he plays across one and loses his off stump.

  5. Lancashire innings underwaypublished at 12:32 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Lancashire 0-0 v Warwickshire 315

Maiden for OHD to Luke Wells to get Lancashire's innings underway.

Keaton Jennings, making his first appearance of the season after injury, is now to take strike against Craig Miles.

  6. 50 runs

for Jamie Overtonpublished at 12:32 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Surrey 368-8 v Northants

What a lovely cameo this is.

    A 63-ball fifty.

  7. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Bracey c Brown b Abbas 0 (Gloucestershire 13-2 v Hampshire)

Three balls later, Abbas strikes again as James Bracey follows, also caught behind by Ben Brown.

It's a fine start by the hosts - and a great response to the way they lost their last eight first-innings wickets so cheaply.

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:26 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Scott c Brown b Abbas 9 (Gloucestershire 13-1 v Hampshire)

Early strike for Mohammad Abbas as George Scott is caught behind.

  9. 350 up for Surreypublished at 12:23 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Surrey 351-8 v Northants

This is seriously painful for Northants.

Gus Atkinson and Jamie Overton are making merry hay.

Overton is twice down the pitch to heave Simon Kerrigan’s left-arm spin over long-on for six.

  10. wicket

BEARS BOWLED OUT FOR 315published at 12:16 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Hannon-Dalby b Parkinson 3 (Warwickshire 315 v Lancashire)

Warwickshire's innings comes to an end in Manchester as Lancashire's England one-day international leg-spinner Matt Parkinson produces a beauty to remove last man Oliver Hannon-Dalby.

England opener Dom Sibley gets a great reception after carrying his bat for 142.

Contentment all round so far today.

    Lancashire have maximum bowling points.

The Bears have a third batting point.

Sibley clearly has his confidence back.

And the man who helped give Sibley his big chance both for the Bears and England, Ashley Giles, has so far proved a very warmly welcomed and informed visitor to the BBC commentary box, in his first appearance on a cricket ground this season since losing his job as England supremo.

    Very entertaining stuff!

  11. Stokes making an impactpublished at 12:12 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Durham 431-4 v Worcestershire

Ben Stokes' season is off and running.

The new England captain has come in at number six to help Durham, 339-3 overnight, push on to claim maximum batting points.

Three sixes and three four so far in his 45 off 45 balls in a stand of 71 with David Bedingham.

At the other end, the South African has now reached his 100 - the second Durham centurion of the innings after another of Durham's three South Africans, Sean Dickson, yesterday.

  12. Postpublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Essex 275-3 v Yorks

Also end of bonus point period at Chelmsford.

Progress has been around 2.7 an over so far.

As such, Essex only pocket two points despite their dominant position.

Only one bowling point for Yorkshire.

Seems like another featherbed on the banks of the Can.

  13. 300 runs

up for Surreypublished at 12:04 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Surrey 319-8 v Northants

I pondered if Northants could nail Surrey here for under 300.

    But the answer is no.

Gus Atkinson has gone on the charge with four boundaries in a Tom Taylor over.

Jamie Overton’s edge for four off Luke Procter brought the home side a third batting point.

110 overs up now and it’s only two bowling points for the visitors.

HAMPSHIRE BOWLED OUT FOR 342published at 11:51 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Dawson c Harris b van Buuren 48 (Hampshire 342 v Gloucestershire)

Hampshire are bowled out for 342, short of a fourth batting point.

Gloucestershire captain Graeme van Buuren gets his second wicket of the morning as he removes Liam Dawson for 48.

He finishes with 3-53, while Mohammad Amir took 3-57 - and the visitors have caused to feel pleased with themselves for the way they have fought back.

At tea yesterday, Hampshire were only two down - and ended up losing their last eight wickets for just 117.

  15. 300 runs

300 up for Warwickshirepublished at 11:50 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Warwickshire 300-9 (106.3 overs) v Lancashire

Warwickshire duly get that third batting point.

Dom Sibley has moved on to 129 - and OHD is on 1.

Two ends of the batting scale, but both equally obdurate customers.

Lancashire may have their work cut out to finish this innings off as quickly as they'd like.

  16. 100 runs

for Paul Walterpublished at 11:47 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Essex 262-3 v Yorks

A maiden first-class hundred for the 27-year-old in his 30th match.

What a moment for him after six fifties before this.

He flicks Matt Revis to fine leg for his 12th four and a century in 263 balls.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:43 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

Abbott lbw b van Buuren 13 (Hampshire 337-9 v Gloucestershire)

Gloucestershire claim their third bowling point in the 107th over as they remove Kyle Abbott - for their first wicket of the day.

Can the hosts claim a fourth batting point by claiming 13 more runs in the two overs that remain after this?

  18. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:31 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

    Clark c †McManus b Sanderson 2 (Surrey 271-8 v Northants)

Another one for Northants and a third wicket for Ben Sanderson with the second new ball.

Jordan Clark props forward to one that leaves him a fraction and edges behind.

Northants can often struggle to finish off the tail - can they nail Surrey here for under 300?

  19. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:27 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

Miles lbw b Hassan Ali 4 (Warwickshire 288-9 v Lancashire)

Hassan Ali strikes for the second time in successive overs as he earns his second LBW decision of the day.

Craig Miles is gone - and the Red Rose have maximum bowling points.

New man in is Oilver Hannon-Dalby.

His first task will be to stay long enough to earn the Bears a third batting point. But it shouldn't be a problem. OHD is in fine form with the willow this season, averaging 9.50 - and has worked hard on his game. As doughty a number 11 as they come.

  20. Sidebottom to stay on at Derbypublished at 11:25 British Summer Time 6 May 2022

Warwickshire have allowed fast bowler Ryan Sidebottom to extend his loan deal with Derbyshire until 1 June.

The 32-year-old Australian, who has had injury problems since first making his breakthrough with the Bears in 2017, was originally loaned out to Derbyshire on 6 April.

He has so far taken four wickets in his two Championship matches.

Derbyshire, without a Division Two game this week, are next in action at home to Worcestershire.
