Four runs from Steven Patterson's final over before tea at Headingley - but although Warwickshire added 108 during the afternoon, the loss of three more wickets has undermined their hopes of a big first-innings score.

Michael Burgess is there on 38 not out, but needs support from the tail if he is to push the champions on far enough to pick up a batting point of two.

Patterson, Matthew Revis and Jordan Thompson have each taken two wickets for the Tykes, who have not been punished for dropping three catches.

The dismissal of Ben Stokes for 15 must have been a disappointment for spectators - even if the majority of them are Middlesex followers.

Spinner Luke Hollman removed the England skipper and Durham captain Scott Borthwick during the afternoon session, but the game is evenly balanced, with Keegan Petersen 45 not out for Durham.

Ned Eckersley is with him on 18 - and Hollman has figures of 2-32.

Four wickets make that Hampshire's session again.

The key will be what happens when they bat, which is likely to come at some point after tea.

Another hard fought session at Old Trafford. It looks a good pitch but the big moment was the dismissal of Nick Browne for 71 with Dane Vilas' sharp intervention.

Having seen opponents start with century partnerships in four matches this season, it would have been a brave decision from Will Rhodes to put Yorkshire in.

But batting first has proved a struggle for Warwickshire who lost four wickets during an overcast morning session. They've made a recovery of sorts in the sunshine since lunch but still look well short of where they should be.

Especially frustrating is that they've failed to take advantage of Yorkshire's current catching problems. Three batters, Rob Yates, Sam Hain and Will Rhodes, have been dropped only for all three to get out without adding any further runs.

Kent add 98 in the afternoon at Wantage Road for the loss of Zak Crawley, who was caught behind off Matt Kelly for 62.

The machine-like Ben Compton is 69 not out and Daniel Bell-Drummond has 47. It's been feast or famine for DBD this season - he's only reached 20 twice in eight previous innings, but on both of those occasions went on to make a hundred. Is he going to continue that trend?

Somerset 141-6 v Hampshire

After 60 overs of being constrained by seam, the arrival of Liam Dawson's spin prompts a change of mood.

Craig Overton is not content to block and launches him for two sixes off his first four balls!

This has been the perfect illustration of how to bowl well in county cricket.

Hampshire have been accurate and on the money from the start and the scoring has gone nowhere with a rate of a little over two.

Successive Yorkshire maidens at Headingley, bowled by Dom Bess and Tom Loten, but Michael Burgess takes a single as Jordan Thompson returns to the attack to get the scoreboard moving again. Burgess is now 30 not out.

With the departure of Nick Browne, the emphasis is on Dan Lawrence to hold this Essex innings together.

He steers one past slip down to the boundary for four and then guides one through the covers for three as the 150 comes up.

Lawrence is up to 33 - his best this season is 44.

They are back out in the middle at New Road and Worcestershire are 4-0 after 1 over - a thick edge by Ed Pollock off Chris Wright to the third man boundary - in reply to the Leicestershire total of 148 all out.

Keegan Petersen has progressed to 44 not out, with Durham 164-4 in the 61st over against Middlesex at Lord's. Luke Hollman has 2-32, including the wicket of Ben Stokes for 15.

Leus du Plooy reaches his third fifty of the season - and second in successive innings - with a cover drive for four off Lyndon James.

It has taken him 108 balls but he almost departs from the next as an edge lands just centimetres in front of second slip and runs away to the boundary.

It's a beautiful afternoon in Northamptonshire, blue sky interspersed with white cotton wool clouds, and Kent are continuing to make the home side suffer after putting them in at the start of play.

Ben Compton is 59 not out, Daniel Bell-Drummond has 32 and this partnership is currently worth 65.
