  1. Can Kent save the game?published at 14:06 British Summer Time 28 July 2022

    Lancashire 145 & 436-9 dec, Kent 270 & 44-3

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

Floodlights on, tricky pitch and plenty of noise from the fielders.

The scene set for a potentially thrilling end to the game.

Lancashire need seven more wickets to keep pace with the top two.

Kent were 10-3 in this innings, and 12-3 in their first.

They recovered first time round thanks to 90 from skipper Jack Leaning but he found a partner then in Joe Denly, who is already gone this time round.

Can Kent do it again to save this match?

Breakthrough for Warwickshire... and they need more of the same.

Nathan McAndrew is the man who takes the first wicket as Ryan Patel obligingly steers him straight into the hands of the cover fielder.

Hashim Amla emerges to join Rory Burns in the middle.

    Glos 317 & 250-6 v Northants 479

Northamptonshire will be keenly anticipating the new ball, which is due in three overs' time, as they renew efforts to break through this prolonged resistance from Gloucestershire.

So far after lunch they've entrusted spin duo Simon Kerrigan and Rob Keogh with the ball, but you'd think the replacement will be handed to the seamers.

Gloucestershire have the 250 up now, with the partnership between Graeme van Buuren and Zafar Gohar now at 61, and they lead by 88.

  6. We're back underway . . .published at 13:49 British Summer Time 28 July 2022

Derbyshire have already beaten Worcestershire, but there are still seven games going.

Two are due to finish at 10 to 5 on the dot.

But there could still be some excitement in the other five games.

  7. Lunch at Trent Bridgepublished at 13:28 British Summer Time 28 July 2022

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Division Two leaders Nottinghamshire will feel they are on their way to a sixth County Championship victory of the season after removing both Sussex openers on the third morning at Trent Bridge.

Set to score 399 for an unlikely success, the visitors lost Tom Clark, caught behind off Luke Fletcher for 5, before a brutal delivery from James Pattinson reared up and accounted for Ali Orr, who made 34, as he fended off to short leg.

Cheteshwar Pujara, who is unbeaten on 9 at lunch, may hold the key to the outcome.

Earlier, Ollie Robinson finished with figures of 5-60 (and 9-99 in the match) as the hosts were finally dismissed for 301 in their second innings.

  9. Lunch at Scarboroughpublished at 13:07 British Summer Time 28 July 2022

    Yorkshire 159 & 272, Hampshire 218 & 121-0

Hampshire openers Felix Organ and Ian Holland go to lunch on 121-0, chasing 214 to win at Scarborough.

After Holland's third red-ball half-century of the summer, Organ is just one run away from his fourth.

England spinner Dom Bess has finally had his first bowl in this match but he has had no success from his nine overs.

  10. Lunch at Chelmsfordpublished at 13:04 British Summer Time 28 July 2022

    Somerset 505-9 dec, Essex 480-3

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

Some overdue final-day entertainment for the cricketing faithful who turned up at Chelmsford today.

Tom Banton, who only arrived overnight as a concussion substitute for Lewis Goldsworthy, has belted four sixes and 11 fours in his 93 off 89 balls, taking the attack to the spinners.

He now needs just seven for a maiden first-class hundred, while 18-year-old James Rew has every chance of improving substantially on his second fifty.

All meaniningless. The game has long been heading for a draw. But Banton has at least injected a little life into it!

Still only 12 wickets in the match on a slow and benign Chelmsford pitch which has offered few opportunities even to Simon Harmer.

The Essex body language has told the story. Captain Tom Westley has conveyed his disappointment with the fourth pitch of this type here this season. In recent years the Chelmsford pitches have been crucial to Essex’s success. This season only two Harmer-inspired home wins from six games means they are much too far off the pace.

  11. Lunch at the Ovalpublished at 13:04 British Summer Time 28 July 2022

    Surrey 49-0 (target 248) v Warwicks

Kemar Roach's astonishing spell in the morning has put league leaders Surrey on course for victory after they bowled Warwickshire out for 310, the last six wickets going down for just 30.

The West Indies paceman took four wickets in quick succession to finish with 5-72, although there was controversy around the dismissal of Sam Hain, adjudged caught down the leg side for 96.

Ryan Patel and Rory Burns have shaved 49 off the target so far, with 199 more required in two sessions.

  12. Lunch at Old Traffordpublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 28 July 2022

    Lancashire 145 & 436-9 dec, Kent 270 & 28-3

Kent's fourth-wicket pair Daniel Bell-Drummond and Jack Leaning have stopped the rot after that early three-wicket Lancashire burst.

But Lancs need only seven more scalps to win - and, even with the limpet-like Leaning still at the wicket, Kent's need of another 284 runs to win looks a tall order.

Can the southerners force a draw in Manchester though?

  13. Lunch at Cheltenhampublished at 13:00 British Summer Time 28 July 2022

    Glos 317 & 247-6 v Northants 479

Gloucestershire have more than a glimmer of hope of saving this game after a spirited batting performance in the morning session, led by captain Graeme van Buuren.

He goes to lunch on 67 not out, with Zafar Gohar - who finished the session by cutting James Sales for six - alongside him on 29 and the pair have guided their side into an 85-run advantage.

Northamptonshire's only success this morning was the wicket of Ryan Higgins, who fell to a superb one-handed slip catch by Will Young off Tom Taylor.

Hampshire 113-0 (chasing 214 to beat Yorkshire)

Hampshire openers Felix Organ and Ian Holland are now over halfway to their target of 214 to win at Scarborough.

Holland has already hit his third red-ball half-century of the summer - and Organ's 50 looks set to follow.

Hampshire were expecting to be a bit tougher than this.

Hasnain c Aitchison b Conners 2 (Worcs 190 all out)

We have our first result of the day, then - Derbyshire completing a remarkable comeback to beat Worcestershire at New Road, having been 14-5 on day one.

Credit to Gareth Roderick, who finished on 53 not out - his first Championship half-century for the Pears - but it wasn't enough to prevent defeat.

Anuj Dal finishes with 5-40 for Derbyshire, who take 19 points for the win and move up to third place in Division Two, at least for a few hours.

    Surrey 38-0 (target 248) v Warwicks

Steady start by the Surrey openers as they pursue this 248 target, with Ryan Patel on 17 and Rory Burns 19.

They're scoring at more than four an over and that will more than do the job if they can maintain that pace. Warwickshire need wickets...

WICKET - Denly lbw b Williams 0published at 12:29 British Summer Time 28 July 2022

Kent 10-3 (chasing 312 to beat Lancashire)

Kent are in a mess after losing a third wicket.

Joe Denly this time, to an LBW decison for Will Williams which umpire Neil Pratt seemed to take an age to give.

Kent were 12-3 in the first innings, but it was Denly who led their revival then.

This time their fate, for now, is in the hands of Daniel Bell-Drummond and stand-in skipper Jack Leaning, who top scored with 90 in the first innings and, as you'd expect of any determined Yorkshireman, has regularly been a thorn in Lancashire's side in the past too.

Long way to go in this one yet!

Captain's innings by Graeme van Buuren, who brings up his second half-century of the campaign and nudges the Gloucestershire lead up to 41 in the process.

Zafar Gohar is in the middle with the skipper now as they battle to thwart Northamptonshire's push for victory.

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:22 British Summer Time 28 July 2022

    Baker b Dal (Worcs 168-8, target 298 v Derbys)

What a game Anuj Dal is having for Derbyshire!

He top-scored in both innings for the visitors, with 55 and 112 not out, and now he's picked up his third wicket of the morning.

Josh Baker is the man to go, leaving a ball that crashes into his off stump, and Worcestershire are sliding towards defeat.
