Charlesworth picks up one off Sajid Khan through the covers and Hammond pushes the spinner down to mid on off the back foot for one.

    Lancs 276 & 142-0 v Yorks 255

"The boundaries have dried up", we said. What rubbish!

Luke Wells punches a slower ball from Jordan Thompson away for four, pulls him to the fine leg boundary two balls later and then adds a single to carry him to his 100 from just 65 balls.

It's his third of the season and 22nd of his career and there can't have been many better ones. His ball-striking has been superb.

Billy Root plays all around a full length delivery from Ben Gibbon.

Was it just missing leg stump? The umpire says no and the left-hander is on his way.

Shubman Gill - now 69 not out - has been joined by Chris Cooke.

Gregory is struggling a little here and spears the ball down the leg side.

Hammond glances to fine leg for four.

Charlesworth picks up a single to point off Khan. One more for Hammond and Charlesworth cuts fine for two. Just a hint that Gloucester are going up a gear.

    24 overs left tonight.

    Hants 400-9d v Northants 175 & 51-0 fo

It’s another good start for Northants.

Like the first innings, Will Young and Emilio Gay have shared a half-century opening stand.

But the visitors collapsed miserably this morning to throw that good start away.

    What can they do here?

    36 overs left today.

Not the most fluent of innings but plenty of stubborn resistance.

He drives Gregory superbly down the ground for his fourth four to reach his second half century of the match.

This one came off 179 balls.

He drags his length back a little bit and Hammond can't get the ball away.

The last ball of the over brings him a single on the on side.

At the other end, Sajid Khan bowls full just outside the off stump. Maiden over. His sixth of the innings.

    Notts 201 & 390-7 dec v Leics 93 & 251-9

Notts may be only one wicket away from their seventh win of the season but the afternoon session at Trent Bridge belonged to Leicestershire number 11 Michael Finan.

He came to the wicket with his side 174-9, but has hit a six and 10 fours in making 53 off only 40 balls.

His partnership with Callum Parkinson - 25 not out - is worth 77, just 12 short of the club's 10th wicket record against their East Midland rivals, set by Ben Mike and Will Davis at Grace Road in June.

Somerset are to rename the River Stand at Taunton as the James Hildreth Stand, in recognition of their long-serving batter who recently retired after 20 years with the club.

"This is a fitting tribute to one the finest players ever to represent this county. Someone who has contributed as much to Somerset County Cricket Club as James Hildreth deserves a lasting tribute and legacy, said chief executive Gordon Hollins.

After making his first-class debut in 2003, Hildreth amassed 28,000 runs and 56 centuries in 715 matches across all formats.

  17. Thunderstorm drifts past Derbypublished at 15:57 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    Derbyshire 306 & 153-5 v Durham 223

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

A big storm front has just drifted past the County Ground here in Derby. Although we could hear thunder and see lightning, the worst of the weather appears to have missed us. It is raining now but not too heavily. We appear to be right on the fringe of things.

Sensibly the umpires decided to take the players off for an early tea with thunder in the air. Derbyshire lead by 236 runs after losing three wickets late in the session following a fairly comfortable period before that.

Durham haven't been helped by the loss of seam bowler Chris Rushworth, who walked off after three overs this morning, having picked up an injury.

Billy Godleman faced 141 balls for his 43 but fell lbw to Ben Raine. It was his highest score of the season though. Raine also had Wayne Madsen caught behind for 58, while Nic Maddinson pulled off a great diving catch at long-off to remove Leus Du Plooy for one from the bowling of spinner Liam Trevaskis.

    A maiden from Sajid Khan.

Josh Davey to bowl from the Pavilion End.

His fifth ball is driven down the ground but Hammond can't get it past the bowler.

Cloudy here - but no danger of rain so far. Two maidens to start the session.

The final session is under way and Luke Wells starts it by forcing Dom Bess away to backward point for four.

He's down the pitch to the next and lifts it over mid-off four four - just inches short of another six.

    Kent 164 & 53-5 v Essex 573

    Five for Sam Cook!

At the moment he’s single-handedly bowling Essex to victory.

Joe Denly goes to pull a short ball and is given out caught at third slip.

Umpire must have thought it was perhaps glove or the shoulder of the bat.

Either way, Kent are being humiliated.
