    Leicestershire 202 & 198 v Durham 296 & 78-3

No sooner had Michael Jones brought up his 50 then he is bowled by Chris Wright as a bit of in-swing gets past his attempted booming drive.

Only 27 to win, so surely too little, too late for Leicestershire.

Captain Rory Burns will probably keep West Indies quick Kemar Roach and new ball partner Dan Worrall back until then.

  10. And in Division Two?published at 10:28 British Summer Time 15 September 2022

This week's big game has been the meeting of fourth against second at Lord's - and that seems all but sorted.

Middlesex are almost assured of victory over promotion rivals Glamorgan, who have a slender 15-run lead, with Timm van der Gugten and Ajaz Patel at the crease - and only last man Michael Hogan to come.

It will take a Welsh miracle alongside Scott Gibbs' matchwinning try at Wembley in 1999 to save this one.

Durham are also well on their way to beating winless bottom club Leicestershire.

Set 105 to win, they are 51-2, needing a further 54, as the Foxes face the prospect of a winless season for the first time since 2013.

And, after declaring on 438-5 following a third-session thrash at Hove, 218 in front, Worcestershire have the task of bowling out Sussex, who trail by 179 with nine wickets in hand.

  11. How we stand at Edgbaston and Northamptonpublished at 10:25 British Summer Time 15 September 2022

Title-chasing Surrey seem on course for victory against Northamptonshire at Wantage Road - a win that would lift them back to the top of the table, ahead of their only rivals, Hampshire.

Hashim Amla completed his ton, then an emotional Tom Curran struck a superb maiden first-class century on the ground where his late father Kevin once shone.

But the Division One title chasers still need to take five Northants second-innings wickets before embarking on their second innings - and the hosts have already built a 127-run lead.

As for the bottom of the top flight, Somerset took a big step towards retaining their Division One status at the expense of last year's champions Warwickshire.

An unbeaten 91 from George Bartlett and 87 from skipper Tom Abell guided them to a 300-run lead over their fellow strugglers.

Somerset, who began this week seven points better off than the Bears, have so far gained an extra bonus point on them.

But is there more to follow? Will they bat out the game for a safe draw, knowing that the Bears have the opportunity to go to Bristol and win next week against doomed bottom club Gloucestershire?

Or will they declare and try to bowl out their hosts?

Somerset's final two games are at home to Northants, then away to One-Day Cup finalists Kent, who might not yet be out of relegation danger themselves.

  13. Today's weather outlookpublished at 10:20 British Summer Time 15 September 2022

The BBC weather national forecast says: "Breezy and bright for many today. Showers in northern and eastern areas. A cool day."

Good job there's no longer a game on in the north then!

Welcome back to the final day of this week's round of County Championship games.

One of the six matches is over, up in Leeds, where Essex's last pair held their nerve to beat Yorkshire by just one wicket in a Headingley thriller.

But we stil have two other Division One games going - and three more in Division Two.

So, at this sad but nonetheless uplifting time of national mourning, thanks for joining us again.
