    Essex 244-7 v Sussex 233-6

A dot ball provides an anti-climactic end to an exhilarating, high-scoring T20 Blast game at Chelmsford as Essex Eagles come out on top.

Daniel Sams smashed 71 off only 24 balls in their innings, but Mohammed Rizwan's 66 off 32 gave Sussex a flying start in reply.

Tom Alsop (45) and Ravi Bopara (51) - the latter playing against his former club - did their best to keep the Sharks in it, but ultimately the target proved just out of reach.

Essex move up to third in South Group following their fifth victory, with Sussex down in sixth after what was their sixth defeat.

    Sussex 233-6 (target 245)

Only one run for Delray Rawlins. The Sussex challenge is over.

  5. Postpublished at 19.4 overs

    Sussex 232-6 (target 245)

Only a single for Harrison Ward and Sussex need 13 from two. You do the maths.

    Bopara c Rossington b Sams 51 (Sussex 231-6 - target 245)

Is that game, set and match for Essex? It might be but Ravi Bopara is giving an ovation by the Chelmsford crowd as he leaves the field, having edged to the keeper.

  7. 50 runs

for Ravi Boparapublished at 19.2 overs

    Sussex 231-5 (target 245)

Daniel Sams again - Ravi Bopara lifts it past the keeper for four more and reaches 50 off 25 balls.

    Hants 221-3 v Kent 167-8

The win moves Hampshire into the top four with a fifth win of the season.

Two wins from five games should get them another quarter-final.

Kent lose for a seventh time this season.

It’s been a huge comedown after last season’s glory.

  9. Postpublished at 19.1 overs

    Sussex 227-5 (target 245)

Daniel Sams bowls - Ravi Bopara finds the mid-wicket boundary.

  10. Postpublished at 19 overs

    Sussex 223-5 (target 245)

Sam Cook tries a slower ball but it doesn't deceive Ravi Bopara, who hammers it superbly down the ground for six.

The next ball is a full toss and Bopara is at it again as he pulls it away for another maximum.

Cook responds by forcing a play and miss - and Bopara can only manage one from the final ball - so Sussex need 22 off six balls.

  11. Hampshire beat Kent by 54 runspublished at 21:58 British Summer Time 17 June 2022

    Hampshire 221-3 v Kent 167-8

    A walloping.

    Superb performance from Hampshire.

Their campaign is in full swing now as they make their way up the table.

Kent’s dire defence of their title continues.

They made a great start with the ball but then completely folded for the rest of the game.

James Vince’s century takes the champagne.

  12. Postpublished at 18 overs

    Sussex 206-5 (target 245)

Daniel Sams is handed the ball for Essex - Delray Rawlins picks up his second delivery and finds the boundary at extra cover with a slashing drive.

A six follows to mid-wicket, taking the total past 200, and Sussex aren't giving up on this one.

Three singles end the over, though and they have 12 balls left to score 38.

  13. Postpublished at 17 overs

    Sussex 194-5 (target 245)

No hat-trick for Matt Critchley but Delray Rawlins can only add a single from his final two deliveries. Critchley finishes with 2-37.

Too little too late here for Kent.

Jack Leaning adds a couple boundaries.

    But is then cleaned up.

Rashid Khan walks out. Goes for a big shot, is caught on the long-on boundary and walks back again. Matt Critchley is on a hat-trick.

  16. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 16.3 overs

    Alsop c Pepper b Critchley 45 (Sussex 193-4 - target 245)

This is a great way to end a high-scoring day which began with England posting a one-day international record total against the Netherlands.

Matt Critchley is thrashed down the ground for four by Tom Alsop but he is gone trying to repeat the shot as Michael Pepper takes a good catch.

Alsop made 45 from 26 balls.

  17. Postpublished at 18 overs

    Hants v Kent 155-6 (Target 222)

Jack Leaning trying to keep the candle burning, helping take 10 from the over.

But it’s almost a mathematical impossibility now.

  18. 6 runs

    Postpublished at 16 overs

    Sussex 187-3 (target 245)

Simon Harmer's final over. Former Essex team-mate Ravi Bopara hoists the spinner for six over long-on and then hits down the ground where a helpful bounce takes it clear of Paul Walter and adds four to the total.

Only one more, though, and Sussex need another 58 from 24 balls. Tall order.

  19. Postpublished at 15 overs

    Sussex 176-3 (target 245)

Aron Nijjar continues and Ravi Bopara drills his opening delivery down the ground for four.

A 50 partnership with Tom Alsop arrives from just 25 balls but there are no further boundaries, so that's a decent one for Essex.

  20. wicket

WICKET Linde c Weatherley b Wood 4published at 16.5 overs

    Hants v Kent 144-5 (Target 222)

Chris Wood has been around the block a few times.

He shuts this thing down with three dots, a single, then the wicket of George Linde.
