  1. WI 58-2published at 8 overs

Ooh, brutal. Curtis Campher was the hero for Ireland with the bat the other day against Scotland but he's having a tough time with the ball this morning.

Johnson Charles took 16 from his first over and Brandon King has just absolutely smashed two more boundaries through the off-side.

There's almost a third but a good bit of fielding on the cover boundary restricts it to just two. King is batting beautifully.

Here is how the West Indies lost their first wicket of Kyle Mayers, with Barry McCarthy getting the key breakthrough for Ireland.

  3. WI 46-2published at 7 overs

A tidy start from the spinner Gareth Delany, as the batters are just happy to keep the singles ticking over and not take any risks at this stage. Five runs come from the over pretty easily.

  4. WI 41-2published at 6 overs

Another much-needed boundary for the batting side as Barry McCarthy drifts down the leg side and Brandon King clips it for an effortless four.

That concludes the powerplay and it's pretty evenly poised. West Indies will be happy enough with the run rate but Ireland will be happy with two wickets. It's up to Brandon King and Evin Lewis to put a partnership together now.

  5. dropped catch

King dropped on 4published at 5 overs

    WI 32-2

    Oh, would've been a beauty.

Brandon King drives beautifully for four to get off the mark from his first ball but then chips one back to the bowler. Simi Singh has to dive full-stretch to his left, gets a full hand to it but the ball doesn't stick.

A tough chance but a drop nonetheless. Can Brandon King make the most of it?

  6. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 4.2 overs

    Charles c Campher b Singh 24 (WI 27-2)

    Four, four, six... and out!

Simi Singh gets the important breakthrough just as Johnson Charles was starting to get going. A wide-ish ball, Charles tries to slash it through the off side but doesn't time it and can only slice the ball straight to a grateful Curtis Campher at point.

Another shift of momentum and West Indies in a spot of bother, with both openers out.

  7. 6 runs

    WI 27-1published at 4 overs

More pressure now! The next ball is smashed into the stand by Johnson Charles who has taken a bit of a liking to Campher.

    A huge hit.

A single from the last ball and the momentum swings back in the West Indies' favour.

  8. WI 20-1published at 3.4 overs

Welcome boundaries for Johnson Charles and for the West Indies as he thumps Curtis Campher down the ground for four, before slicing the next ball through the covers.

That second one in particular was hit very hard indeed. Pressure back on the bowlers now.

  9. WI 11-1published at 3 overs

Evin Lewis is the new batter and gets off the mark straight away. A successful over for Ireland.

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 2.4 overs

    Mayers c Tector b McCarthy 1 (WI 10-1)

Big breakthrough! Kyle Mayers is the first to go.

Barry McCarthy bowls a solid line and length, the batters taking just a single from the first three balls and potentially feeling a bit of pressure to score.

Mayers takes an ugly swipe at a ball on off stump, there's no timing and it loops high in the air for Harry Tector to take a simple catch at mid-off.

  11. WI 9-0published at 2 overs

A tidy start from Mark Adair concedes just three, including a risky single for which could've been a run out chance had there been a direct hit.

Pretty evenly matched so far. You feel there is more pressure on West Indies - as previous champions of this competition, it's a chance for Ireland to cause an upset.

  12. WI 6-0published at 1 over

Johnson Charles helps himself to the first boundary, Josh Little going a little too wide and the batter punishes it through the off side.

There's some good bounce in the pitch for Little but a solid start from the West Indies, six runs from the first over.

  13. Postpublished at 05:00 British Summer Time 21 October 2022

Johnson Charles and Kyle Mayers are opening up for the West Indies while Josh Little will bowl the first over.

  14. Postpublished at 04:57 British Summer Time 21 October 2022

The anthems are done and it's time to get going in Hobart.

A reminder that the equation for both Ireland and the West Indies is very simple: win and you're through, lose and you go home.

  16. West Indies win the toss and bat firstpublished at 04:48 British Summer Time 21 October 2022

The weather is looking good and so West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran opts to have a bat.

"We are positive and are coming off of a good win, we need to continue to get better. We had a discussion and will look to correct our mistakes," he said at the toss.

"The straight boundaries are massive, so finding the gap and running will be important."

Good morning! If you're in the UK, hopefully the (very) early morning is treating you well.

It's our first of two must-win games today with Ireland taking on the West Indies for a place in the Super 12 stage.
