It wasn't far away. India have learnt from their first few overs when South Africa were dropping and running. The fielders have come in that bit closer to cut off those singles and back up their bowlers, who are hitting some awesome lengths, and really putting the pressure on.

Markram knew he was beaten and that slaps into the gloves of Karthik, above head height.

  3. SA 35-3published at 9 overs

    Target 134

There is some real pace and bounce in this pitch.

Hardik Pandya gets one to rise and beat Aiden Markram. He rates the ball, pursing his lips in appreciation. David Miller is then rapped on the gloves by a Hardik bouncer.

It's leading to indecision in the batter's mind too as a quick single leads to confusion. Markram ends up half way down the pitch and a direct hit from Rohit Sharma would have seen him well short of his ground.

The required run-rate is now exactly nine an over.

It's more conventional batting from Miller and Markram, more like one-day cricket, trying to get used to the pace and bounce.

If they get through to the 10th over or so, I think the platform will be set.

  5. SA 33-3published at 8 overs

    Target 134

India are up again. They want an lbw against Aiden Markram but Richard Kettleborough again shakes his head.

They opt against the review this time. A bit high? I reckon so.

The required run-rate has snuck up to 8.42 though. It's hardly surprising, there has been 32 dot balls in the first eight overs.

The worm shows South Africa are 14 runs behind India. South Africa are 33 for 3 after 8 overs. At the same stage India were 47 for 4.Image source, BBC Sport

A big inside edge and David Miller survives.

He's only got one off six balls so far. He looks edgy.

I thought he inside edged that but I am behind the batter...

  9. India reviewpublished at 7.1 overs

India want another look at an lbw shout against David Miller.

Has he hit it? It's close if he hasn't.

Just about a textbook off drive, head over the ball and timed.

That's a lovely shot. Almost effortless, beautifully timed by Markram.

  12. SA 32-3published at 7 overs

    Target 134

    That is magnificent.

After a pretty quiet over Aiden Markram leans on a drive and finds the gap between extra cover and mid-off. It is beautifully timed and runs away to the boundary. There was an effortless ease to the shot.

Good running brings two off the last ball. A good over for the Proteas with eight off it.

South Africa have got a bit of work to do after such a bright start to proceedings.

  15. SA 24-3published at 6 overs

    Target 134

David Miller is the new batter.

He edges into his stomach first ball, and looks in some discomfort, before letting the final ball of the powerplay go through.

India have definitely won the powerplay.

What a way to get out from Bavuma.

For a batter out of touch, out of form, it's a long stride back.

Oh Temba, this is not a good shot.

The South Africa skipper shuffles outside off stump and looks to ramp away, but an edge is pouched by Dinesh Karthik behind the stumps.

The umpires check the catch, but it's absolutely fine.

South Africa are in deep trouble. Losing three wickets in the powerplay normally means you lose. They need a partnership.

From Bavuma's point of view, I feel like he might as well try and swing the bat. He needs to try and aid Aiden Markram, otherwise scoring is only coming from one end.

Here's how Rilee Rossouw was dismissed.

It was a brilliant review. It also shows that the bowler isn't always right - Arshdeep Singh didn't fancy it at all.
