What a day of World Cup cricket that was.

It all began with South Africa's shock defeat by the Netherlands that saw the Proteas eliminated.

Pakistan then sealed a semi-final spot with a nervy five-wicket win over Bangladesh in the second game.

India then laid out their credentials with a thumping win over Zimbabwe at a raucous MCG to set up a last-four meeting with England.

Attention now turns to the first semi-final, with New Zealand taking on Pakistan at the SCG on Wednesday.

It should be a cracker. See you then.

  2. 'What Suryakumar is doing is remarkable'published at 11:42 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2022

India captain Rohit Sharma: "What Suryakumar Yadav is doing for the team is remarkable. To come out there and play how he wants to play, it takes the pressure of the other batsman. We know his ability and it allows the other guys to take some time. The confidence he shows when he bats, the dugout can really be at ease and he has shown a lot of composure, He has gone from strength to strength."

On the semi-final with England: "The key for us is to adjust to the conditions as quickly as possible. We have played a game there before so we understand what we need to do. But England will be a challenge for us. They have been playing good cricket. But that's what you expect in a semi-final, two teams going at each other. It will be a great contest. We just need to keep sticking to what we do, it will be a high-pressure game."

On the fans: "They have been brilliant, watching us almost everywhere we have gone. It has been amazing and we expect the same in the semi-finals as well. Hats off to them. And on behalf of the team I want to thank them."

  3. 'The boys fought really hard'published at 11:41 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2022

Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine: "We could've changed our plans. India did really well and we tried to negate the yorkers which was our plan. Maybe we could've taken a bit more pace off the ball.

"I think leading up to the tournament we had a lot of positivity with the bat. In the last few games we went into our shells and its very difficult when the ball is moving in front.

"Obviously our last few results didn't go as planned but we mustn't forget the good work we did to get here. We fielded really well at the start but the last games let us down but the boys fought really hard."

India know they're a proper group and will move to Adelaide where they will face England. I think Phil Salt if Malan doesn't come in. He needs to be let lose.

I'm going England v Pakistan final.

Suryakumar Yadav speaking to the host broadcaster: "I think the plan was very clear. Hardik said let's take a positive route - we started hitting good boundaries and never stopped.

"My plan has always been clear - whatever the situation is, I see what my team needs and bat accordingly. It feels really good, but at the same time, you come out and start with zero."

England were looking a cut above the rest with their power. But after seeing India today, it's changed my mind a little bit.

India played the almost perfect game. Almost got to 200 - a great effort on this ground. They really bullied Zimbabwe in the first six, great skill from the opening bowlers sending the ball both ways - they'd have troubled any team in the world.

It's been a fine performance from India, they've reminded people how good they can be with both the ball and the bat.

Almost done now. Raza the last recognised batsman at the crease, that's his tournament over. He's been good over the past 12 months - I might even go see him after this for a cup of tea.

Sikandar Raza kept battling on despite losing partners at the other end.

He pulls a short delivery from Hardik Pandya that fizzes straight to Suryakumar Yadav at deep mid-wicket.

Raza departs for an enterprising 34 from 24 balls.

Engivara can't believe he's missed. It was a short ball, didn't bounce much. He's laughing as he walks off, Ashwin's laughing, they're both embarassed.

    Oh dear.

Ravichandran Ashwin gets one to keep a bit low but Richard Ngarava makes a mess of the attempted swipe into the off-side and the ball clatters into the stumps.
