There was a lot of power in the shot but it went higher up rather than going the distance.
Kohli c Burl b Williams 26 (Ind 87-2)
A breakthrough!
After a rather soporific few balls for India, Kohli takes a big swing at new bowler Ryan Williams. It's straight up in the air and it's an easy catch for Ryan Burl at long off.
All the singles from India as they work Raza around the field.
It's been tight from Raza so far but Zimbabwe will need to plug the leaks at the other end if they want a total they have any chance of chasing.
Rahul racks up a single - we've reached the half-way mark with India well set for a decent total here.
There's drinks out in the middle.
Rahul crashes Chatara through mid-wicket for four more. He's up to 40, while it's 51 from 35 balls for this partnership.
Sikandar Raza comes on and puts the brakes on India's advance - just the three from it.
Kohli pulls the final ball to square but doesn't really get hold of it and it's some easy fielding from the fielder in the deep.
Kohli rehearses the shot ruefully - plenty of time for boundaries, Virat.

You can hear the crowd. It is a sea of blue here at the MCG. It is almost like a festival.
KL Rahul may have started slowly, but he's ticking now!
He launches leg-spinner Ryan Burl over long-on for six before sending the next ball for a one-bounce four over square. Burl appeals hopefully to his fielders, but they can only watch the ball fly past the ropes.
Bit of a quicker one from Masakadza to finish the over, Kohli gets it away again into mid-wicket for a single.
A decent response from the spinner to an early boundary.

Tremendous from Virat Kohli, it's one of his trademarks. There was so much wrist power in that shot.
Fifty up for India as Kohli whips Wellington Masakadza through mid-wicket, evading the fielder to reach the boundary.

That's a lovely shot, though it was a bad ball from Blessing Muzarabani.
He may have taken the only wicket so far but he has bowled a lot of loose balls inbetween.
Muzarabani lacks the discipline of Chatara and Ngarva, but his big levers bring decent pace - he's up in the mid-80s here.
Rahul finds some joy behind square, cutting the former Northants seamer down to third-man for four before Kohli gets three through the covers.
That's the end of the powerplay.

Zimbabwe are out but they will take a lot of heart from what the Netherlands did against South Africa earlier.
They will be thinking 'come on, we can do that as well'.
A tidy over from Tendai Chatara, who's changed ends to replace Ngarva.
He restricts Rahul and Kohli to five singles.

If there is one place you do not bowl at Virat Kohli, it is to his pads. He just doesn't miss if it is on his pads.
Immediate impact from Virat Kohli.
He turns Muzarabani around the corner for four.

The crowd don't care. They know who is coming out next.
Rohit c Masakadza b Muzarabani 15 (Ind 27-1)
That's gone!
It's a been a wayward start from Muzarabani, sending a wide down the off side before Sharma jabs a bat out to send the ball to the backward point boundary.
Perhaps his eyes got a little too wide though? He targets the leg-side but doesn't really get hold of it and it's a comfortable chest-high catch for Wellington Masakadza at square leg.
It's a slow trudge off the ground for the India captain.
