Former England captain Eoin Morgan on Sky Sports: "Jos Buttler has had an unbelievable game as captain. He used Moeen Ali, he used Chris Jordan, and their experience was evident.

"Against KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Virat Kohli - they out-thought them, out-executed them and made them look like an average team.

"Some of the harder games in World Cups come when you're getting out of the group stages because there's so many variables, different teams and different conditions.

"And then the knockout stages are just about untying the dogs and letting them run free, and today they really did that.

"You do have to question India's planning. Did they underestimate England and how good they really are?

"India toured England this summer and played a really expansive game, and we really thought the mindset of Indian cricket had changed. And we all thought that if they play like that, not many can compete with them.

"But it's been fascinating to sit back and watch tonight and watch it all unfold."

  5. 'The game we were searching for'published at 11:47 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2022

England vice-captain Moeen Ali on BBC Test Match Special: "It was an unbelievable performance from ball one. To restrict them on this wicket, on this smaller ground, I thought the bowlers were outstanding and we fielded well. I thought Rash [Adil Rashid] in particular was unbelievable. With the bat we were clinical and it was everything we wanted. It was the game we were searching for.

"There wasn't much talk in the interval because Jos is obviously going into bat so he doesn't want much talk but we knew we needed a good start. After the last game when we were cruising the same and we knew we needed to see it home. It feels like the tournament didn't really kick off for us until tonight.

"I feel Jos has been massive in the transition. This winter has been fantastic for him. He has captained unbelievably well in this tournament and I feel like we want to take the team forward. We want to be known as a great white-ball team and to do that you have to win tournaments. There have been a few disappointments but it would be awesome to do it this time."

    Ravi Bopara
Former England all-rounder on BBC Test Match Special

India are brilliant in India or sub-continent conditions but once they get out of there they are miles behind it. They are five, six, seven years behind it. They need to up their game. They need more dynamic cricketers.

More from Jos Buttler: "Alex was so tough to bowl at there, he used the dimensions of the ground incredibly well. He's found some fantastic form and he was a brilliant partner to have today.

"It's important for us to enjoy this and this performance so we will reflect on that and enjoy it, but there is one last dance to go.

"I do have to praise Chris Jordan specially, coming into this game when he's not played all tour and he had to do an incredibly tough job bowling at the death at Hardik Pandya, who is one of the best in the world."

  11. 'Everyone from 1 to 11 stood up today'published at 11:38 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2022

England captain Jos Buttler: "The Ireland game certainly does feel a long time ago! But the character we have shown as a group since then, in a huge game against New Zealand, and then tonight to put in our best performance.

"It certainly feels like it's as close to perfect as we can get, especially against such quality opposition. We are very excited to be here, to get out of the group stages and play in occasions like this, and I think everyone from one to 11 stood up today.

"We always want to start as fast as we can and be aggressive, and when you have Adil Rashid at 11 then that's such a long batting line-up and it gives you so much freedom when you're starting your innings."

More from Chris Jordan: "I found out I was playing last night. Throughout the tour I've been trying to train nice and hard. I've been bowling a lot more and trying to get my ODI load up because I got picked for that. I felt ready and I've been executing my skills and I just drew on a little bit of experience as the game went on.

"It would mean everything to get over the line, but we'll have to go through our processes again. We'll enjoy tonight, 100%, because wins like that over quality teams like that don't come around every day. We'll have. day off and then plan for Pakistan and the MCG.

"English white-ball cricket has been developing from 2015. We've been on the up since then. It has been a lot time in coming and we've had a bit of transition with Jos Buttler taking over but we knew our best game and our perfect game was close and round the corner. Our batting line-up is unbelievable - I'm coming in at 10 at the moment! To do it that emphatic on such a big occasion really means a lot and the boys should take confidence from it."

More from Rohit Sharma: "You cannot teach how to handle that pressure. But all these guys have played enough cricket to understand that, when they play in the IPL and games like that it's also really high pressure. You've got to hold your nerve and stay calm but the way we started with the ball wasn't good and that shows that we were nervy to start.

"You have got to give credit to the England openers though, because they played so well. We wanted to keep it tight especially with the shorter boundaries but it didn't happen today, and that is disappointing.

"When we won that first game against Pakistan, that showed so much of our character. We also had a tricky game against Bangladesh, but we held our nerve there. But it's all about executing, and we didn't do that today, and that's when you're in trouble."

India captain Rohit Sharma: "This is pretty disappointing how we turned up today. We still batted well especially at the back end to get that score but we were not good enough with the ball.

"It was definitely not a wicket where a team should be able to come and chase that total in 16-17 overs, but things like that can happen. We just didn't turn up with the ball. When it comes to knockout stages it's all about handling the pressure, and it comes down to individuals too."

Former England captain Eoin Morgan on Sky Sports: "That was absolutely mind-blowingly good. They made a very good Indian side look ordinary and that is very difficult to do.

"That involves planning, executing and then putting them to bed. It's like a boxing bout, but at two different weight divisions. That's how it felt towards the end with Jos Buttler and Alex Hales going bananas.

"I'm so happy for them and the opportunity that they have on Sunday now is absolutely huge."
