  1. wicket

    WICKETpublished at Ball 22

    Pope b Overton 10 (Fire 16-3)

Oh, this is not a good shot!

Ollie Pope, who is playing for the first time in The Hundred, looks to ramp away onto the off side - his right side as he faces the bowler - but misses the ball.

Craig Overton doesn't miss and hits the off stump of Ollie Pope.

Fire finished bottom of the group stage last year and they haven't got off to the ideal start here!

A shot played out of pressure being built which went high into the sky. Tom Banton should have played it down, but he hit it up in the air.

I thought it was a really good bit of bowling from Michael Hogan. Banton came at him and Hogan banged it into the deck.

Good catch out in the deep. It went a long way up and it always difficult to pick it up out of the clouds.

  5. wicket

    WICKETpublished at Ball 20

    Banton c Whiteley b Hogan 6 (Fire 16-2)

    Good catch!

Tom Banton, who has played 20 times for England but really struggled for runs in the last 12-18 months, was starting to feel the pressure of a slow start.

He looks to advance down the pitch at Michael Hogan and attempt a big heave through the leg side, but is caught by Ross Whiteley, who makes decent ground in from the boundary and takes a good catch.

    Brave are flying so far.

Chalk and cheese those last two balls. Ollie Pope tried to hit the ball he faced too hard whereas Tom Banton just waited for it.

  7. Fire 16-1published at Ball 18

    Oh, shot.

Tom Banton plays the most glorious shot as he hits the ball back where it came from, past the bowler, and away for four runs.

At the end of each bowler’s five balls they’re reminding spectators of the Hundred rules over the PA system. It’s much appreciated. It has been a while for all of us.

Craig Overton actually got up to 88mph there, which is pretty sharp.

Ollie Pope will be looking to hit more shots like we saw before with a little shimmy down the pitch and trying to find gaps.

More good stuff from Craig Overton, conceding just five runs from his second set of five balls.

He'll be replaced again by Michael Hogan at the other end.

It hasn't been the crash, bang, wallop start we perhaps expected.

You'll hear the term 'powerplay' a lot today and throughout this tournament. Allow us to explain...

Bowlers normally like a few balls to loosen up but you have to be on it from your first ball in the Hundred.

  13. Fire 6-1published at Ball 10

It has been a really quiet start so far with Michael Hogan conceding just two runs in his first set.

Each bowler can bowl a maximum of 20 balls in each game.

Michael Hogan coming in at the ripe old age of 41. He's a youngster, isn't he?

  16. Postpublished at 19:12 British Summer Time 3 August 2022

Craig Overton is going to start with a set of five balls. A reminder that bowlers can either bowl five or 10 successive balls in The Hundred.

Michael Hogan, who is 41 - the second oldest player in the tournament - is coming on.

A pure cricket shot. Sweetly timed by Ollie Pope.

  18. Fire 4-1published at Ball 5

    Oh, Ollie Pope.

England's Test number three gets off the mark straight away with a gorgeous shot for four.

    That is trademark Pope.

He blocked a couple and thought 'I have got to get on with it'. It's the pressure. It's on you immediately. It was floated and he just clipped it to the fielder.

A bit of a nothing shot. He wasn't fully committed to the drive, that's why you get that outside half of the bat and the catcher was in at extra cover.
