  • Invincibles had fallen to 12-4 in first 17 balls

  • Coming up: Manchester Originals v Northern Superchargers (Friday, 18:30 BST, live radio commentary on Sports Extra)

  1. Invincibles 32-4published at 65 balls left

    140 runs needed

More spin for the Spirit as Mason Crane comes on to bowl. Cox pulls a short ball in front of square and Maxwell sprints around the boundary to make an excellent stop.

There is no stopping the last ball of the five, though, as Cox somehow goes back and hits down the ground for four. How he's generated that power from there is beyond me!

It looks like Crane will continue for the next five balls...

  2. Invincibles 23-4published at 70 balls left

Liam Dawson is on after the powerplay and keeps the pressure on the Invincibles with another tidy five balls.

Only three runs, all in singles, for the Invincibles. The Spirit are bossing things in this London derby for now.

The worm shows Oval Invincibles Men are 27 runs behind London Spirit Men. Oval Invincibles Men are 23 for 4 after 30 balls. At the same stage London Spirit Men were 50 for 1.

  4. Invincibles 20-4published at 75 balls left

    152 runs needed

A good set of five for the Invincibles, only in so much as they didn't lose another wicket.

They're having to regroup after a disastrous start to their run-chase. We're a quarter of the way through the innings now though so they need to get a move on fairly soon.

  6. England set up India semi-final at Commonwealth Gamespublished at 20:28 British Summer Time 4 August 2022

Over in Birmingham, England women have beaten New Zealand by seven wickets in the Commonwealth Games to guarantee their passage to the semi-finals as group winners.

It means they will face India in Saturday's last-four tie, while world champions Australia will play New Zealand. The order of those games is still be decided.

England restricted New Zealand to 71-9 from their 20 overs, with Katherine Brunt, Sarah Glenn and Issy Wong all taking two wickets apiece.

Alice Capsey top-scored with 23 for England, as they won with 50 balls to spare.

Both they and Australia are unbeaten going into the knockout stages and will be the favourites to reach Sunday's final at Edgbaston.

This is a massive run chase now but it's a big opportunity for these batters to stand up and announce themselves on the bigger stage.

  8. Invincibles 17-4published at 80 balls left

    155 runs needed

With all these early wickets it has been hard to keep track of who exactly is out there batting for the Invincibles.

I can confirm that, for the time being, it is Hilton Cartwright and Jordan Cox tasked with getting the home side out of the mire.

Cartwright is off to a good start, carving Ellis away for four first ball.

I'm not sure what I think of that. Dan Lawrence was saying it had hit the ground.

There's a big O on the screen. I'm expecting a U and a T to follow... and there it is!

    I'm very surprised by that.

    Billings c Lawrence b Ellis 1 (Invincibles 12-4)

It goes from bad to worse for Oval Invincibles! The soft signal makes all the difference.

The replays aren't conclusive, Dan Lawrence himself wasn't sure if the ball had bounced before he got his hands to it or not but the on-field soft signal means without any replays to prove it definitely didn't carry, it's out!

Sam Billings isn't best pleased as he makes his way off the field.

It looked a clean catch from up here.

  13. Umpire reviewpublished at 83 balls left

    Invincibles 12-3

Have the Spirit got another wicket? Sam Billings pushed the ball from Ellis into the off side, Dan Lawrence dived forward but did the ball carry.

    The soft signal is out.

The boisterous Oval crowd want some boundaries!

    Jacks c Ellis b Thompson (Invincibles 11-3)

Thompson has another one - what a start for London Spirit!

Will Jacks had struggled to get going and tried to heave the ball away leg-side but succeeded only in picking out Nathan Ellis on the boundary.

The Invincibles are in big trouble already against last year's last-placed side.

It's not been the start that Oval wanted but they've got to build a partnership from here. That's what Eoin Morgan and Dan Lawrence did so well for London Spirit.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 88 balls left

    S Curran c Maxwell b Thompson 8 (Invincibles 10-2)

Chipped straight to Maxwell! Having done so successfully the ball before, Sam Curran tried to hit over the top again but this time he doesn't get the elevation and Maxwell takes a simple catch at mid-on.

Not the start the Invincibles wanted.

No matter the format, you've always got to execute your basics.

With the new ball, you bowl a good length and don't give the batter any room to swing.

  19. Invincibles 7-1published at 90 balls left

    165 runs needed

Wood comes back well after that poor ball to start. He keeps the Invincibles to just another run from the next four balls.

It's been a very bright start from the Spirit.

It was wide and Curran just had to get some bat on it for it to race away.
