Moeen Ali has plenty to think about because there has been the odd sign that when this pitch behaves itself, the ball is going to travel.

Just one set of five from Helm, and here is left-armer Graeme van Buuren with more spin

    That has stayed low, it's gone underground! It's a pea-roller, a daisy-cutter!

Malan looks befuddled by that dismissal!

    Malan b Ali 8 (Rockets 9-1)

Skidded on and Malan is castled!

That barely bounced, went under the bat and hit middle and leg. Dawid Malan looks nonplussed to say the least.

Beautiful, beautiful. Malan just threw his hands at it and got it up and over extra cover. Good start for the Rockets.

Moeen Ali has got to manoeuvre his bowlers and be canny. I think the Phoenix are 10 or 15 runs under par but the pitch isn't quite as flat as we thought at the beginning.

  18. Postpublished at 15:59 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

Moeen Ali has led the Phoenix out through the flames and the smoke, quite apt really, quickly followed by Alex Hales and Dawid Malan.

And Moeen will open the bowling - interesting move.

They're talking about Joe Root on TV now, but with Hales, Malan and Munro ahead of him I wonder how much of the great man we'll see?

    Thanks, Sam!

Well, I'm with the consensus there - Trent Bridge is a fast-scoring ground and with the short boundary with the 'cut off' angle on one side, I think the Rockets could, er, rocket towards the target.
