Summary

  • Moeen hits 52 off 28 as Phoenix move up to third in table

  • Livingstone equally as impressive with unbeaten 51 off 32

  • Wood impresses with pace and aggression - taking 3-17 off 20 balls

  • Sams clubs 55 off 25 balls to drag Rockets to 145-6

  • Rockets collapse to 53-6 after being asked to bat first

  • Tuesday's double header: Manchester Originals v Welsh Fire (women's at 15:00 BST, men's at 18:30)

  1. Rockets 96-6published at 80 balls

    Sams 20 Gregory 23

While Phoenix are very much still on top, they're leaking late runs here and Rockets are putting together a bit of a late surge.

A bit of a messy five from van der Gugten who keeps missing his length plus a wide in there and Rockets can smell that hundred.

This partnership is worth a very valuable 43.

  2. Rockets 86-6published at 75 balls

    Sams 15, Gregory 19

A bit of width provided and Sams throws his hands at it to find that leg-side boundary. Gregory joins the party and hits the second six of the innings. He knows third man is up and it rockets 74m.

That's what I really like about Moeen Ali's captaincy, he looks to attack all the time and uses the bowlers that he thinks will be good for the batters.

The best way to slow down the run-rate is to take wickets and Birmingham Phoenix have got that mindset.

It's a six for Gregory. That has been a long time coming. We haven't seen many of them in the game so far.

  6. Rockets 71-6published at 68 ballls

    Sams 8, Gregory 11

Lewis Gregory dances down the wicket and goes aerial. While the fielders are interested, he's got enough of it and it launches for a much-needed six.

  7. Rockets 64-6published at 65 balls

    Gregory 5, Sams 7

A welcome boundary as Sams clips it over fine leg for four. Howell recovers well and the run rate is still less than a run a ball as these two look to try and get going.

Rumours are rife that there is a branded Phoenix beach ball bouncing around the crowd.

  8. Rockets 57-6published at 60 balls

    Gregory 3, Sams 2

I could watch Imran Tahir all day. He is blockbuster. Every ball is a show isn't it? Even the way he runs in.

The last ball of the set almost finds the edge of Gregory and Tahir goes up hands on head.

Imran Tahir's bowling: 0% full, 80% good length and 20% short. 15 balls, 5 dots, went for 17 runs, took 1 wickets with an economy of 1.13 runs per ball.

It's Lewis Gregory that will need to need to play the captain's innings. Phoenix are just so much on top. The early wickets have really crippled them so it's a massive blow.

  10. wicket

    Patel c Ali b Howell 13 (Rockets 53-6)

Moeen Ali makes no mistake under that and it continues a day of Phoenix taking catches. Samit Patel is offered width but no pace and it goes straight to Moeen at extra cover.

It's a high-scoring venue and Trent Rockets are very much on the backfoot at the moment.

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 49 balls

    Cockbain lbw b Howell 6 (Rockets 52-5)

It's umpire's call so the call stands and Cockbain has to go.

Fuller from Howell who traps Cockbain with the knuckle ball.

    Rockets 52-4

Iain Cockbain is given out lbw so it will need to be completely missing or have hit the bat to be overturned.

  14. Rockets 52-4published at 50 balls

    Cockbain 6, Patel 13

Patel goes bit. We all felt it coming. Livingstone just dropped it a bit short and Patel threw his body through it. Not too shabby 75m.

Livingstone recovers well with two dots.

Samit Patel is not only talented but also has a huge amount of experience so he will not feel too overawed by this situation.

  17. Rockets 45-4published at 45 balls

    Cockbain 5, Patel 7

The Rockets finally find the boundary and it's off the bat of Samit Patel. He uses his wrists well to turn Brookes away and the strangle has been broken slightly.

How good is Benny Howell? He just keeps going. I love the skill level he has and the understanding of his own game. Although he hasn't got the pace he has got the ability to outfox some of the best players in the country.

  20. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 37 balls

    Kohler-Cadmore b Howell 11 (Rockets 37-4)

He holds the pose but we all heard the death rattle. He's played all around that and no matter how long you hold a pose, those zingers will still light up.

It just sort of floated past him and almost looked like it was happening in slow-mo.
