Sean Abbott took 4-8 as Manchester Originals got their first victory of The Hundred with a 47-run thrashing of winless Welsh Fire.

Chasing 150, the Fire were all out for 102 as Australia's Abbott starred with his 15 deliveries.

Jos Buttler (29 off 17) and Phil Salt (38 from 22) had helped the hosts race to 66-0 after 34 balls before the Originals lost 9-83 to finish on 149-9.

Victory saw the Originals jump up to fifth in the table with the Fire bottom, the only side yet to register a win in the men's tournament.

Here's what also happened:

• Jake Ball (4-29) and Adam Zampa (2-17) were the pick of the bowlers for the Fire.
• Dwaine Pretorius also took 2-30 for the visitors as the Originals collapsed in the latter half of their innings having looked set for a big score.
• With the bat Pretorius made 29 off 14 and Ben Duckett struck 25 from 15; the pair were the only batters to pass 10 for the Fire.
• Originals' Tristan Stubbs took 2-6 off his 10 balls on a night for the bowlers at Old Trafford.

What’s next?

Manchester Originals travel to rivals Northern Superchargers at Headingley on Sunday (19:00 BST).

Welsh Fire host Southern Brave on Sunday (18:30 BST).

Tomorrow sees Trent Rockets take on London Spirit with the women's match starting at 15:00 BST and the men's match getting under way at 19:00 BST.

Manchester Originals captain Jos Buttler on Sky Sports: "It is great for us to get a win. It has been a little bit of a struggle but we've done some good stuff in patches and today it was good to put in more of a complete performance, but there were still things to improve on.

"Sean Abbott will be the first to admit he probably hasn't bowled quite as well as he can but he stood up tonight and that was great for him. It is important to try and keep confidence in this form of the game. It asks you to take risks and be brave and it is about saying that is OK when it doesn't go right.

"We know powerplay runs are vital at this ground and we managed to put good pressure on them. There are things to work on after that start because we were probably looking at 180 at one point but it was great to have that partnership with Phil Salt."

The Hundred table looks a lot healthier for Manchester Originals supporters tonight.

Not so great for Welsh Fire fans.

'Match hero' Sean Abbott to Sky Sports: "It's not been the start to the season we wanted but today we came out and executed and backed up the batters. It was nice to get on the board.

"We know what we have to work on, we just haven’t executed previously. Mitch Stanley set the tone for us tonight and everyone else backed that up.

"They are all big games for the rest of the season and hopefully we can build some momentum from this match."

Time for some reaction from a couple of Manchester Originals stars on their first win of the summer...

You have to feel a tad sorry for Dwaine Pretorius who really gave it his best shot for Welsh Fire with a gutsy 29 off 14 balls, including this huge six.

But the South African was short of support, with Ben Duckett (25) the only other batter to achieve a score above 10.

Sean Abbott was certainly aggressive with his bowling tonight, with almost three-quarters of his deliveries being short balls giving the Welsh Fire batters a lot to chew on.

The tactic certainly paid off with 3-8 from 15 balls.

They were three defeats from three and they have turned things around.

A thumping victory and Jos Buttler has finally got a smile in his face. It's a fab turn around and it gives something for the crowd to cheer about. They have seen the women win and now the men win.

Manchester Originals record their first win of the season - and a handsome one at that.

But it's a fourth successive defeat for the winless Welsh Fire.

The Originals' opening partnership of 66 between Phil Salt and Jos Buttler gave the hosts a great platform.

And despite their batting stuttering from there to 149-9, a fine bowling and fielding display limited Fire to just 102 in reply.

Pretorius cuts away a classy shot for four to keep Fire's hopes alive.

Last man Jake Ball survives the final couple of balls of the set.

And it's all down to Dwaine Pretorius now, needing 53 runs off 15 balls. Needs a miracle really. Nine sixes?
