  1. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 96 balls left

    Smeed b Dawson 1 (Phoenix 2-2)

And another! From bad to worse for Birmingham Phoenix.

Straight ball from Liam Dawson and the danger man Will Smeed completely misses and has to watch his stumps shatter.

Phoenix's chances of qualification are dwindling by the second.

Budinger knew he had to go hard early but it was too much.

  3. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 98 balls left

    Budinger c Crawley b Dawson 0 (Phoenix 1-1)

    First game, first-ball duck!

Tough gig for Sol Budinger, coming in for the injured Liam Livingstone and basically having to go for it from ball one.

Which he does - but whacks it straight to Zak Crawley on the boundary instead. Great start for Spirit.

  4. Phoenix 1-0published at 99 balls left

    Target 140

A simple, calm start for Will Smeed, just nudging the first ball from spinner Liam Dawson for a single.

Tom Helm was brilliant with the ball, taking four wickets for just 17 runs.

It's over to the batters now, with exciting youngster Will Smeed and Sol Budinger opening up.

    Thanks, Tom!

Right, we've just been trying to do some quick (or not so quick) maths to work out what Birmingham Phoenix need to do to keep their knockout hopes alive.

They need to chase down 140 in 73 balls or fewer. So basically, expect them to come out swinging.

Spirit have a chance to go top of the table with a big win. It's all getting a bit confusing.

London Spirit looked to be struggling to reach 120 at one stage on a slow, sluggish surface but that destructive knock from Ravi Bopara has given their bowlers something to defend.

It was a remarkable innings that piles the pressure on Birmingham Phoenix, who need a big victory to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stages alive.

Here to guide your way through the Phoenix reply is Ffion Wynne.

Birmingham Phoenix bowler Tom Helm on Sky Sports: "It is always handy playing at your home ground. It was a pretty helpful wicket to bowl on which is always good as a bowler.

"We kept it pretty simple. We saw that the wicket was doing a little bit and keeping a bit low and it was almost four-day length.

"I thought we bowled pretty well. I don't think it is the greatest wicket in the world but I think we need to knock them off pretty quickly so we'll give it a go."

What a finish by the London Spirit and how crucial that final six is going to be?

  10. 6 runs

    Spirit 139-6published at 100 balls

Liam Dawson faces the final ball of the innings and he predictably goes for a huge swing.

He makes a good connection, the ball fizzes towards the boundary, Brett D'Oliveira is underneath it.....but he fumbles it over the ropes!

    Oh dear.

Another six to end the innings and after a slow start London Spirit have somehow blasted their way up to 139-6. That is some recovery.

The crowd show their warm appreciation for the veteran! Bopara has made it really difficult for the Birmingham Phoenix.

  12. wicket

    Bopara c Mousley b Helm 45 (Spirit 133-6)

All good things come to an end.

Ravi Bopara goes for another huge heave but can only pick out Dan Mousley on the deep mid-wicket boundary.

What an innings from Bopara though, a potentially match-winning knock.

Bopara's fifth six! He's played the only ininngs of substance. None has timed the ball like Bopara today.

I know we are still in August but Ravi Bopara has hit that so high in the air I think it has come down with snow on it!

It has the distance too, with the ball flying over square leg and landing among the gleeful crowd.

Great atmosphere and absolutely brilliant. Bopara has played an outstanding knock for his team so far.

  18. Spirit 124-4published at 95 balls

Dan Lawrence looks to follow Bopara's lead but his attempted shot over mid-off is mistimed and they can only run two.

Lawrence will be on strike for the final set, which will be bowled by Tom Helm.

It's a fourth six for Bopara! I wonder what he's had for breakfast.

Six more! A fourth six from 16 balls for Ravi Bopara has he smashes Kane Richardson over mid-wicket.

Bopara moves to 38 and the crowd are absolutely loving it.
