Sophia Dunkley on the on-pitch mic: "Katie George came in with some great intent and hit some great shots. Cricket is funny like that because the momentum can change really quickly. But it was never in doubt with Anya Shrubsole. She is a really cool character."

  2. Fire 87-7published at 17 balls left

    Target 123

The rate is above two a ball now.

Sarah Bryce has struggled to get going, she's on 10 off 13 deliveries.

Welsh Fire need a bit more of this in the final 20 balls...

    Filer c McGrath b Shrubsole 0 (Fire 84-7)

    Shrubsole on a hat-trick.

Lauren Filer lofts a gift of a catch up for Tahlia McGrath.

No hat-trick though as Claire Nicholas sees the next ball, her first, off.

I definitely think it was worth a review, Katie George was striking the ball brilliantly. But a really good reply from Anya Shrubsole after being hit for those boundaries to take a big, big wicket.

  7. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 22 balls left

    George lbw b Shrubsole 14 (Fire 84-6)

    It's plumb.

Katie George tries to crash away a fourth boundary on the spin but gets this one all wrong, misses the ball completely and it hits her pad right in front of the wicket.

That was a very optimistic review but desperate times and all that...

  8. Umpire reviewpublished at 22 balls left

Anya Shrubsole thinks she has Katie George lbw. The umpire agrees.

Welsh Fire are reviewing it. Big moment this.

  9. Fire 84-5published at 23 balls left

    Target 123

An important boundary off the final ball of that set from Katie George.

And she follows it with another, straight down the ground.

Then another, which evades a diving attempt at a catch at deep cover.

    Three successive boundaries. Nice.

  11. Fire 71-5published at 27 balls left

    Target 123

Another escape for Bryce as she tries to go big off a full Tahlia McGrath delivery.

Sophia Dunkley races in from the boundary but cannot take the catch as it falls just short.

    It's 52 needed off 27 now.

Suddenly the amount of runs needed look a long way away for Welsh Fire. Annabel Sutherland has a lot of experience but this is a fine piece of bowling by Anya Shrubsole and a brilliant piece of wicketkeeping by Carla Rudd. Standing up to quick bowlers is hard, so a really good piece of glove work.

  13. Fire 69-5published at 30 balls left

    Target 123

Welsh Fire will have to take risks now.

Sarah Bryce is relieved to see one fall short of mid-off.

The batters are just being starved of boundary chances by this impressive Brave bowling attack.

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 33 balls left

    Sutherland c Rudd b Shrubsole 22 (Fire 67-5)

And she gets a huge wicket.

Annabel Sutherland rolls the dice but mistimes it, gets a nick and Carla Rudd takes a smart catch behind the stumps.

Southern Brave skipper Anya Shrubsole brings herself back into the attack.

It just goes to show that if you can create pressure and get early wickets you can really push that run-rate up. Then all of a sudden the batters are doing things they don't want to do.

  17. Fire 66-4published at 35 balls left

    Target 123

Comfortable stop on the ropes from Danni Wyatt to prevent Annabel Sutherland hitting a four.

Those boundaries are evading Welsh Fire and Southern Brave are getting on top.

The required run rate is moving up towards two-a-ball.

The worm shows Welsh Fire Women are seven runs behind Southern Brave Women. Welsh Fire Women are 66 for 4 after 65 balls. At the same stage Southern Brave Women were 73 for 4.
  18. Fire 62-4published at 40 balls left

    Target 123

Another single to end the set.

Sarah Bryce is the new batter, she's on two, with Annabel Sutherland on 20. Welsh Fire need the latter to remain at the crease, you feel.

  19. Fire 61-4published at 42 balls left

    Target 123

The run-rate is creeping up for Welsh Fire and losing these wickets is not helping.

A couple of singles off Amanda-Jade Wellington but Fire need more.

    It's 62 needed off 42.

What a beauty that was from Lauren Bell. Completely deceived Carey with the slower ball. Dropped the pace right down.
