This is clever cricket at the moment, just trying to stay in the game.

  2. Spirit 45-6published at 40 balls left

    Target 83

Grace Scrivens lofts one in the air, straight down the ground but it bounces safely in front of Ellyse Perry.

Scrivens would have been a bit twitchy there, but she's batting nicely with Dattani here.

Time for a strategic timeout. I think I need one, too.

That was a shot of some class from Naomi Dattani. That's exactly what the London Spirit need.

  4. Spirit 42-6published at 45 balls left

    Target 83

A glorious drive for four from Naomi Dattani is greeted with applause and cheers from the Spirit dug out.

Eight runs from those five balls for Spirit and they didn't take any risks. The equation is actually so simple - but it's funny what pressure can do.

Spirit will want to get ahead of the run rate pretty quickly otherwise it'll be pretty nervy if it gets to a run a ball from the last 10 balls or so.

It's definitely going to be a thriller. Birmingham Phoenix know if they could get one more wicket, they really are on top.

  7. Spirit 33-6published at 50 balls left

    Target 83

Well, we're halfway through Spirit's innings and I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought the game would be pretty much done at this stage before it started.

50 balls, 50 runs. Who's going to take it?

  8. Spirit 30-6published at 52 balls left

Welcome runs here for London Spirit as Grace Scrivens smashes a four, followed by a wide from the bowler Ria Fackrell.

  9. Spirit 26-6published at 55 balls left

    Target 83

Grace Scrivens is the new batter.

The good news for London Spirit is that she started the campaign opening the batting so she's certainly no mug. But she struggled with it, and is only 18 years old, so there is a lot of pressure.

Monaghan played a lovely drive through the covers, but it's one shot too many.

    Monaghan b Fackrell 4 (Spirit 26-6)

    Four and out.

    WHAT IS HAPPENING?

Having just hit a lovely boundary, Alice Monaghan is completely bamboozled by a simple straight ball and that's rather inexplicable, to be honest.

Then again, this entire game has been inexplicable.

  12. Spirit 26-5published at 58 balls left

A brave shot from Alice Monaghan first up, skipping down the pitch to Ria Fackrell and smashing it for four.

A few more of those are needed.

  13. Spirit 21-5published at 60 balls left

    Target 83

    Erm... what now?

Alice Monaghan joins Naomi Dattani at the crease for Spirit. They only need 62 runs from 60 balls but the way they're going, it looks completely impossible.

It is a scene of total jubilation for a side that only half an hour ago thought they were done.

    Dean b Elwiss 6 (Spirit 21-5)

    What am I seeing here?!

There are no words. It's a straight ball from Georgia Elwiss and Charlie Dean has just... missed it? London Spirit are absolutely crumbling.

Psychologically, when you get it to a run a ball it seems like a steeper mountain to be climbing.

  18. Spirit 20-4published at 65 balls left

    Target 83

Emily Arlott has bowled 10 balls, taken two wickets and not conceded a run yet! What a spell of bowling.

  20. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 66 balls left

    Luff c Perry b Arlott 8 (Spirit 20-4)

Oh, I spoke too soon. Another one gone.

A brief partnership was building between Luff and Dean, who were just doing the basics right. But Emily Arlott does very well, takes the pace off the ball and forces Luff to chip it up in the air and is safely pouched by Ellyse Perry.

This is carnage. Are Birmingham Phoenix really going to defend 83?!
