England captain Heather Knight: "Really pleasing, we came away from the World Cup and challenged the girls to be better in a few areas and I think we've blown them out of the park.

"It's a really good start to what is a new cycle of 50-over cricket. The girls that we've brought in have been outstanding, we've been able to rotate a bit and still win. The three players we had on the bench today was a pretty good bench!"

On changes since the World Cup: "It's been no secret that we've struggled to find the right combination at the top of the order for a bit and Emma has obviously come in, looked at home and made a really good start to her international career which is good to see. Her and Tammy seem to have clicked very nicely. Tammy was outstanding today and showed what a world-class player she is in one-day cricket.

"We had a very inexperienced bowling attack today and managed to take 10 wickets again. Those girls are learning all the time but showed good signs and have really good, raw talents that will stand them in good stead."

On challenging new players: "We just wanted to find the best place and role for them moving forward. It is good to see players in different situations - front end, back end or whatever it might be. It's good to learn a bit about them and for them to learn about themselves and how they go about their game, what international cricket is all about when Leicester is like the M1!"

On batters in form: "There is a lot of pad rash in the middle order, it's quite nice to watch actually. It's been good, we've challenged the girls to be a little bit more aggressive and take the game on because we've got that long batting line-up that can fix it of it doesn't go right. They've really taken that on and executed well."

South Africa need to win all three of the T20s to level the series.

They'll have the experience of Mignon du Preez back in their ranks and that experience and leadership is something they have missed in these ODIs. If she can back up the likes of Wolvaardt and Kapp, hopefully we will be in for a more competitive series.

  4. Postpublished at 21:44 British Summer Time 18 July 2022

South Africa captain Sune Luus on Sky Sports: "We were backing our bowlers to do the job for us today. Obviously throughout the series we haven't performed to the best of our ability and today was a good chance for us to hit our straps, bowl our lines and lengths and bowl them out for a reasonable total.

"Unfortunately that didn't happen but it was still a good game of cricket.

"We talked it through before the toss, it wasn't just my decision. You always come off the field after that thinking what we could have done differently but at the end of the day England are on top form, they play with a lot of confidence so credit where it's due.

"But obviously we didn't put in our best performance.

"Wolvaardt, Kapp and Tryon are also in phenomenal form at the moment and they're some of the positives we can take into the T20s.

"I'm very excited to have Mignon du Preez back, we are looking forward to having her energy in the team and all her experience."

And here's how England wrapped up that victory.

Player of the series, England batter Emma Lamb: "It feels a bit like a dream, to be honest. Obviously, I'm really happy with how it's gone. I think I've been positive and clinical with my batting, that's come off. All the hard work has paid off.

"The aim was to be positive in my batting, not change things that have worked for me in regional stuff. It has really helped me batting with experienced players like Tammy [Beaumont], Nat [Sciver], [Sophia] Dunkley, Heather [Knight]. They've been playing for England for ages so that's helped me a lot.

On opening with Beaumont: "Me and Tammy have really clicked as an opening pair. Being positive and having loads of discussions while we're out there has really helped. It's gone very well."

On taking three wickets: "I always want to contribute with the ball as well when I get the opportunity so that was nice. I think it is important being able to do both disciplines, it's really good for the team and adds something else for me."

Alice Davidson-Richards also chipped in with a haul of three wickets in just her second ODI.

Player of the Match Tammy Beaumont on Sky Sports: "I'd count this as a second home after Canterbury, really! I've lived in Loughborough for many years and I used to work for Chance to Shine here before I was a professional so it's always nice to play at Leicester.

"I was surprised we were batting first, I'm not going to lie. I know Heather wanted to bat first, and as soon as she lost the toss I thought, oh here we go! It's going to be a long 50 overs! But yeah, very happy to bat first.

"It did a little bit early on but it turned out to be an absolute belter.

"I'm just trying to keep my game simple and bat the way I bat. Emma Lamb and I have clicked straight away, we get on really well and it's been nice to put on some big partnerships together.

"She's had an amazing series, started by that century in the first game.

"The whole of the top order is doing really well, it's really hard to break into and we've got so much depth and competition for places now."

It was then over to the bowlers, and spin did the trick for England as Charlie Dean and Emma Lamb took three wickets each.

  10. Postpublished at 21:27 British Summer Time 18 July 2022

Tammy Beaumont's century, followed by 50s from Emma Lamb, Sophia Dunkley and Heather Knight, propelled England to their whopping 371.

They ran South Africa ragged and it was all set up from there.

I think Sune Luus will be desperate not to have too much of a debrief after this game. I'd be keeping my distance from any bowlers if I were her.

You have to assume it was a collective decision with the toss. She'll take the heat for it but I'm sure there are other people behind the scenes behind it too.

South Africa look a tired, rather disconsolate team looking from afar. They didn't look happy at all to be here.

It was a strange decision to put England in to bat in ferocious conditions. Good pitch, little bit of pace in it, little bit of bounce and they put up 371.

England were always going to win from there. They take the points, that is what these series are all about and now Sune Luus has to explain to her team what went wrong at the toss, that's a good starting point.

  13. Postpublished at 21:23 British Summer Time 18 July 2022

England now lead the multi-format series 8-2 and based on South Africa's performances in this ODI series, it's going to be very difficult for them to get many points to get back in it.

Chloe Tryon's 70 and 50s for Laura Wolvaardt and Marizanne Kapp set up a decent effort in reply to England's 371 but it always felt like too much.

Plus Sune Luus' decision to bowl first in 40 degrees is one that baffled us all. They were exhausted just a few overs in.

    Full, straight, bowled!

Bang on the money from Issy Wong who has plugged away for eight tough overs for that wicket. A perfect yorker, Shabnim Ismail steps away and tries to have a hack but is nowhere near it.

    England are one away.

    A wicket maiden from Davidson-Richards.

A reminder that Sophie Ecclestone, Nat Sciver and Katherine Brunt are all sat on the bench today in the yellow bibs. What a luxury to be able to win so dominantly while leaving them out.
