Pakistan bowler Naseem Shah, speaking on Sky Sports: "England played very good cricket. We just came back from T20 and at the start we bowled off line but today we came back.

"I was surprised with first ball when he [Ben Stokes] hit me for six but the pitch is good and I'm enjoying Test cricket.

"We played some T20 cricket in last few month and I bowled 27 overs in these two days so I'm a little bit sore but I should be fine. Shafique and Ul-Haq played really well today and hopefully we will bat well tomorrow."

  3. 'We will be pushing for the win'published at 12:20 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2022

England's Will Jacks to BBC TMS: "There's a lot of cricket left to be played. They have started well with the bat but we will be pushing for the win in these next three days."

On when he found out he was playing: "Quite literally two minutes before I got the cap. I knew the night before we had 7-8 players ill so there was a possibility that I might be needed.

"I was probably 50% mentally ready and two minutes before the team time Stokesy pulled me to one side and said' Foakesy's ill, you're in'. So it didn't give me any time to get nervous which is a good thing."

One simple rule change would transform Test cricket. If matches are drawn, the win is awarded to the team with the higher run-rate per over. In this match which is destined for a draw (you heard it here first) England are going at over 6 per over, Pakistan at 3.6; would encourage both teams to not only build big scores but at a high rate. How ENTERTAINING would that be?

If Abdullah Shafique and Imam Ul-Haq reach their centuries tomorrow it will be the first time ever in Test cricket that all four openers hit centuries in the first innings.

England played some astonishing shots. We have a team that is devastating on a good surface.

Harry Brook in particular played some glorious shots. Fantastic. Just having the gall to play some of the shots he did is amazing.

While many of you were still sleeping, England added 151 for the loss of their final six wickets in the morning session.

Ben Stokes hit his first ball for six but was bowled by Naseem Shah soon after. England continued to attack, in a similar fashion to yesterday, with Harry Brook taking 27 from one over en route to 153 from 116 balls.

Liam Livingstone was caught in the deep for nine while fellow debutant Will Jacks made 30.

Livingstone has not bowled. He went off after doing himself a mischief in the field.

@Ben Ellis: I reckon let them play 30 mins into the dark and give the bowlers an actual chance of getting a wicket.

It's Pakistan's day. There was a bit of mayhem this morning but they did mop up six wickets for 153, albeit in one session.

That was a bit of a result, curiously, as England had mentioned 750 was the goal.

The cricket then become much more predictable, though it was a very competent display by the Pakistan opening pair. England bowled reasonably well. We knew it wasn't going to be easy. You have to take every half chance if you are to going take 20 wickets.

The only chance England had was when, on 11, Imam-ul-Haq feathered an edge off Jack Leach. Ollie Pope, who has otherwise kept smartly in the absence of Ben Foakes, spilled it, however.

Ben Stokes shares some high fives with his England team-mates before they all head off. England gave it a good go but, in the face of very solid batting, have hardly threatened on a flat pitch.

Abdullah Shafique who is 89 not out and Imam-ul-Haq, unbeaten on 90, get their backs slapped as they reach the dressing room. They have been excellent.

The run map shows Imam ul-Haq scored 90 with 1 six, 13 fours, 2 threes, 4 twos, and 18 singles for Pakistan

Umpire Joel Wilson is teasing us all. He keeps coming in, threatening to call it a day before smirking and calling the players on for one more.

I think England would now be happy to go off too. Keep these two sweating in the 80s and 90s overnight.
